What is the cheapest shipping method?
What would be the cheapest method of shipping a fender from central Texas to Kansas City, MO? Parts vendors: How do you ship these items? I'm being told that it'll cost $100 to ship one fender, which I think is outrageous.
Thanks, Jay

I REALIZE YOU DON'T WANT TO SHIP USPS PRIORITY, THATS NOT AT ALL WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY HERE. THE FIRST OF JULY, WHEN THE P.O. RAISED THE PRICE OF FIRST CLASS STAMPS FROM 34 TO 37 CENTS, THEY ALSO CHANGED THE WAY THEY CHARGE TO SHIP PACKAGES. NOW THEY GO BY POSTAL ZONES (LIKE UPS) & AS A RESULT, SOME OF THE PRICES HAVE GONE UP 400 %. I SHIPPED A PACKAGE THE OTHER DAY TO N.Y. FROM NV.. I SHIPPED AN IDENTICAL ONE TO THE SAME PLACE ON JUNE 23rd & IT COST $8.65 PRIORITY, ON JULY 6th IT WAS $21.85 WOW

Yeah, that's true, but I can't see paying more for shipping than the fender costs itself! Hell, I could drive down to Texas a pick it up for the cost of a couple tanks of gas, but I don't have time for that. I've got a friend that used to work for UPS checking on it for me. I'll let ya know what I find out.

I SHIPPED ONE BY UPS A FEW MONTHS BACK, FROM NV. TO GA. & I THINK IT WAS $35. I JUST WRAPPED IT IN CARPET PADDING (3/4" FOAM RUBBER), & THEN WRAPPED IT IN CARDBOARD, & CALLED UPS FOR A "ONE TIME PICKUP"

Hey John,
I bought a set of chrome CST retainers from you awhile back. That was slick the way you shipped them on the wooden strip!

68 Suburban wasn't joking. Greyhound can ship large items, and from what I hear, it's fairly reasonable. Give em a call.

I found that when I went to ship a computer case, FedEx ended up being the cheapest, cheaper than USPS or UPS by a large margin...

I would guess that Project meant fed-ex ground. Just wanted to make sure you were checking with what would likely give the best rates. I've used fed-ex ground a lot and they do a great job. Another possibility is Greyhound Package Express. They can be reached at 800-739-5020 or at www.greyhound.com. And now I have 100 posts!!

However, the $100 sounds like they're planning to send it truck freight, which is basically $100 and up no matter what you send. Unfortunately, UPS and fenders don't get along. UPS owns a LOT of bent fenders and some UPS offices won't even accept them any more when they're wrapped in their standard cardboard skin. And, since UPS has at least 1 trained (that's questionable) monkey at each of their US hubs, you can practically guarantee your fender will look like a banana when you get it. As a benchmark, I received via UPS Ground a pair of fenders last year that I paid $18 to ship. They were also shaped like a banana when I got them. Just yesterday I received 2 fenders, 2 doors, and a hood and the shipping bill was $93.07 (from NJ to MA, and it took 1 day). Kenneth

Sent a core support to Florida a few weeks ago on Greyhound. It was $40 where UPS wanted over $65. Granted, UPS will pick it up and deliver it to your door.
