Dipstick with problems

Recently i swapped the motor out of my 71. The p.o. had installed a later model(like '84) 305 out of a monte carlo.Manifolds and all. When i dropped in my old 350 (like 73) the drivers manifold sits right against the dipstick hole...I plan to run some headers eventually, but right now i cant bear to cut the newly run exhaust he had installed since its a daily driver....so my question is....whats my options?..fill up the hole w/ silicon..lol...

Re: Dipstick with problems

Get a short stick. Change oil and fill to capacity. Put shorter stick in and pull and put a mark on it. DONE

Re: Dipstick with problems

I did try the shorter tube from the 305. But since it was from pass. side, it still wouldnt work. i had to remove the whole tube from the block to get clearance....Has anyone else had trouble using late model manifolds on an older (lefthand dipstick) engine?

Re: Dipstick with problems

Ya just dont plan on checking the oil for about 6 hours after you stop I have one and it is hot. I Keep one of those mechanics gloves in my glove box just so I can check my oil.
