You paid what??
has anyone come across this ordeal.....when you show up with your latest acquisition and the first thing asked is "what did THAT cost you".....this is the question I was asked recently when I arrived at the inlaws house.....I should have said "less than a lease down payment on a brand new 4x4"....or "less than the 15 year old rust bucket of a fox body furd you just bought"
has anyone else come across these people who think people who drive classics like us.....must be hard off to have to drive such an OLD vehicle? What is wrong with people.....don't they understand that my 36 year old truck has already lasted 4 times longer than their honda ever will......and while they dump money into their daily drivers just to keep them on the road...while losing resale value....every repair/upgrade/modification on my truck is likely to increase my resale value......ahh....i feel better.....

Re: You paid what??
That's why I'll never buy a brand new car (at least not anytime soon) the newest vehicle I have is an '95 s-10 a, my aunt was always "suggesting" that I get rid of all my junk and buy a new car, yeah right!

Re: You paid what??
exactly, everytime I think maybe I should buy a gas meizer (I already have an olds that gets 25mpg), I tell myself that both of my cars are paid off, insurance is next to nothing.....and my truck can pull between 11 and 14mpg with the hubs locked all the time (getting manual hubs soon).....the H2 gets between 8 and 11mpg.....and the last time I checked insurance and the monthly payment on those rigs wasn't cheap....although, in fareness.....I probably spend at least the equivalent of a payment on my truck monthly buying stuff it NEEDS....p.s. the new radio is already in the mail!
It may be old, it may be loud, and it may be a gas guzzler.....isn't it GREAT!

Re: You paid what??
True we could repaint and put in a new engine and tranny every year and still be less than the payment on a new f150. And how many people turn there heads to look at another assembly line look alike truck? Its loud its old but its american and I love it. And at least we did not spend or kids college fund on a rolling tank with wheels.

Re: You paid what??
You know, I'm pretty sure I could get just about every penny out of my truck that I have into it even with what I spent on the engine rebuild and slight hail damage that happened a few years ago.

Re: You paid what??
I have actually been asked not to drive my stuff to work, because
they leak, or look dingy, or crappy, or whatever, I tell them all they have to do is pay me alot more and I will drive something newer at the time I owned a 67, so I went out and bought a 70 model

Re: You paid what??
I just bought my 72,with the insurance money from my 70 that caught on fire,I love it, although i need to put alot of money in it which i dont have because I'm one of those who likes a new vehicle ( should of listened to my wife ) the only good thing is, I traded one of those gas tankers on wheels (suv)chevy tahoe in on a 2001 Trans Am ws6 6speed,I love it,my wife says I'm stupid, but when we go see the inlaws i say we can afford to do so because we dont have to pay a 100$ for gas. Then I laugh and get sad at the same time because I think damn I sure would like to put that 470.00 bucks a month into my 72 cheyenne,Man that thing sure would look good.Oh well maybe some day soon.

Re: You paid what??
Ten of these older trucks in a convoy would be more intresting to watch while driving by, than watching ten anything else drive by.Every where mine go they turn lots of heads. They are not loud nor picture perfect . Just old Heaps that move well.

Re: You paid what??
My grandmother does the same thing. Saw my GMC, and the first thing shes asks is "You had money for that?!?!"
"Yeah, I've only been saving up for 3 or 4 years, I paid for 1/2 of her" "What is it, a Ford??" Now that last statement was pathetically numb, considering my grandfather cut wood and had pulp trucks and pick-ups and everything else. She should have known it was a GMC. She even had a class B lisence once, and used to drive dump trucks on occasion!!!! It's one thing if you look a friends truck over, and then casually ask your friend what they bought it for. But you dont ask a stranger right out of the blue how much they bought it for. Thats just dumb. |
