Locking Diff?
Today, I was under the hood of the '73 big block truck I recently bought "winterizing" and noticed the options sticker shows a "G86 Locking Differential" . Does anybody have any info on what type of locking Diff. they put in these 2wd 3/4 tons. I assume it is more of a limited slip style than a true locker but I have not taken the cover off to check. The rear end was redone a couple years back according to the receipts in the glovebox and doesn't leak a drop, so I dont want to rip it apart just to check. Anybody have any info on these diffs.
Thanks again.....Bill Last edited by screamin_c102; 11-19-2005 at 06:56 PM. |

Re: Locking Diff?
14bff, could be a detroit locker or a gov-loc(limited slip).

Re: Locking Diff?
The RPO decoders say it is a limiited slip, however it is the same code used on the late model camaros, caprices, impalas, trucks, etc. so it isn't too specific on what type of locking rear. Does anybody else have a 14 bolt with this code, and if so have any of you opened it up to see what type it is?
Jims70gmc, is the gov-loc any good? |

Re: Locking Diff?
in a 14bff it's not bad. The 10 bolt 1/2ton model was week and got the name "gov-bomb".

Re: Locking Diff?
LOL. I could imagine. I had an 460 powered F250 with A Dana 44 front go boom took out the cover both spiders and a good portion of the case. We called it a three way open diff LOL.
Thanks for the info. |
