I have been thinking about adding a Dewalt Circular saw to me tool collection. I'm looking at the DC 390 18V. Anyone have any input on these saws?

I have one,but I only use it for a quick cut up a ladder or anytime I don`t want to run a cord just for a cut or two.As far as cordless saws go,it`s a good saw.I usea Black & Decker Sawcat that`s a cord-type that pre-dates the yellow DeWalt stuff.It`s over 25 years old now.The DeWalt ones are pretty much the same thing.Porter Cable,Skil,and Dewalt are your best bet for a spin-saw.Porter Cable makes a left-side blade sidewinder.The stability of a sidewinder with the easy-to-see-the-blade aspect of a worm-drive.

I have one that came in a Kit with drill, sawzall and flashlight. For what I use it for it's great. If you want to saw for hours at a time it's not going to be the right saw. I use it for a 1/2 dozen 48" cuts on 3/4 OSb and it's time for a recharge. You can cut quite a few 2x4's with it before it needs a fresh battery. If you are doing serious work a corded saw will still be prefereable. The depth of cut is a little shy of a regular size corded saw as well. I find that with no cord and the fairly light weight it's easy to handle and I can cut cleaner truer cuts with it than I can with my corded saw.

I'm not planning on using it for continous duty. I just thought it would be nice if you want to make a few cuts to not have to drag a cord out. I already have a few 18v tools with extra battieries so having a spare charged up wouldn't be a problem.

They also have a heavy duty Heavy-Duty 6-3/4" Metal Cutting Saw Kit - DW934K-2 that looks pretty serious.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use a wood blade in this saw. The only drawback is you can't tilt the deck for a bevel cut...

as was already said they are great saws because of the light weight but they do go through some batteries if you do any serious cuts. they are great if your on a roof or anywhere a cord isnt convenient just keep some extra batteries around.i used one everyday for about 9 months. we always had enough batteries it wasnt an issue

I've had the same setup as" StingRay" for about 4 year's
Wouldn't be without it ,I did get extra Battery's off Evil Bay .

I believe at least some of the metal cutters have slower blade speeds. Have you ever seen one of those metal cutting circular saws work? They are amazing. No sparks and a clean flash free cut. They make them as cutoff saws now. I'd love to have a cut off saw in the garage that doesn't shower the place in sparks. I think a regular abrasive saw would still be necessary for certain jobs but most stuff could be done better and faster with the carbide tooth metal cutter.

I find these kinds of tools generally a much better value when packaged in a kit. I paid about 600 Canadian for an 18 V XRP 1/2 hammer drill, Sawzall, Circular Saw and flashlight. I got a coupon to pick a free tool and chose a 3/8 angle drill. I have used all of them and the 18 V power is amazing. The flashlight lasts for hours and is almost a bright as a headlight. The drill is fantastic. The saws have proven equally usefull and imressive. All around one the best value for money purchases I have ever made.

Those kits aren`t that great of a deal.I bought one like you mentioned and it really doesn`t save much,if any.You`re buying four tools and they only give you two batteries and one charger.The batteries are about $90 each and the chargers are,I think,about $40.You just get a big old suitcase for a carry case instead of an individual case & charger that`ll fit in a tool box so you can lock it up.I don`t know about now,but they used to sell the drills with two batteries.The battery and charger are the better part of what a tool costs.If you don`t want to carry the whole 4pc.kit and only need one tool,there`s no way to keep the tool,spare battery,and charger together.Unless you go out and spend more money on a tool case for each tool.That`s what I did.So,I`ve got about another $400 invested in my 4pc.set-up.
