? about HP rating for 05 Trucks
I'm buying an 05 5.3/4L60E that I'm going to put in my 69 Suburban. I can get one out of a Tahoe or Suburban and was wondering if the VIN will tell you what the HP rating is? What is the most desireable vehicle to get one out of? Thanks,
Rob

Re: ? about HP rating for 05 Trucks
I'm pretty sure all the 5.3's are still putting out 285HP, net. I forget the torque rating; somewhere over 300. If it came out of a regular Silverado, it'll be the same HP rating as all the other Silverados. If they tweaked the power at all, it was only by about 5hp.
The LS engines like exhaust and intake clearances, though, so it shouldn't be *too* hard to pull 300 out of it. |

I am pretty sure my 05 Silverado with the l33 engine has 310hp and 335tq. I feel a little bit of a difference over my 04 Silverado with the standard 5.3 with 295hp.

Oop, I'm wrong. Upped the HP by 10 to 295 for the base. I didn't know they started sticking the all-aluminum 5.3 in the trucks; they must've had some left over from the SSR or something. Pretty cool.

I think the Extended cabs have the optional Aluminum block 5.3L.

Re: ? about HP rating for 05 Trucks
You mean the new 4 doors, or extended cabs and up?
Seen any new Vortec Max trucks yet? I found a 2wd version with a conversion package at a Chev dealer this weekend. Some $40k for it. Also saw a Tahoe LTZ, which apparently has Silverado SS wheels stock. What's the point in the Silverado SS when run-of-the-mill trucks will come with the same options and powerplants? If the SS isn't anything special, why build it? It *was* something special in 2003, but now, it's just another truck. Sad that GM's doing this. I won't even get into them building an SS version of every car they build. I'm half waiting for an Aveo SS. :P |

It is the 1500 Extended Cab Standard Box 4x4, that the Aluminum 310hp motor is availible.
