Windshield antenna

My windshield is broke in an arc that starts on the right of the antenna and goes up and through the antenna.
Can this be fixed or will I have to replace the glass to get my antenna working again?

Re: Windshield antenna

Unfortunately to repair the antenna you will have to replace the windshield, unless you want to run a convetional antenna. If you don't want to drill holes in your fender you can hook up a metal antenna and stash it under your dash. Even hidden under there it will probably work better than the one in your windshield ever did....

BTW- Welcome to the forum. Post some pics of your truck when you have a chance...

Re: Windshield antenna

They also make an "electronic" antenna that is desgined to hide in the headliner if you have one. I don't know how well they work though....

Re: Windshield antenna

I'll post some pics as soon as I get them uploaded to my host.
My truck is still in the "Before" stage. I'm in the middle of replacing it's ragged out 350 with a 454 and it is proving to be more than I antisipated. Just the little nickle & dime stuff.

Thanks for the info on the under the dash antenna. I hate to put out the dough on a windshield when there are other, more important things I could use it on. The crack comes up from the bottom of the windshield over the little antenna snap and back down the other side, like a half circle. It looks like the previous owner might have done this when he disconnected the antenna cable from the windshield.

I'll try the under dash job. Where can I find such an animal?

Re: Windshield antenna

I have one of those electronic antenna's in the headliner on my 32 Ford.
Don't waste your time & money.
I play CD's in my deuce.
You can't beat a steel antenna. Stick it under the dash, or get one of those
retracting jobs you can mount under a body panel.

Check your local auto parts. You need the metal mast, and the coaxial cable that goes to the back of your radio. Disconnect the factory coaxial cable that runs from the radio to the windshield antenna, and plug in the metal antenna. Tuck it up under your hvac duct work....
