crossover steering???

I saw this listed on a restored/updated 4wd Burb on e-bay....IT HAS AN UPGRADED CROSSOVER STEERING SYSTEM WITH A SECOND STEERING KNUCKLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND MAKES IT DRIVE LIKE A NEW 2006 CHEVY TRUCK.

What is this and is it worth doing on a 4wd? Or is he telling a big one. Any pictures if this is worth while? Greg

Here's the listing, it's nice. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...91810706QQrdZ1

Re: crossover steering???

It's usually done by the off-road guys to get more suspension travel & to help reduce or eliminate bump steer. To make it drive like a new truck though is questionable. On our trucks you basically use a 2wd steering box which puts the ptiman arm parallel to the frame rail. This then allows the drag link to cross over to the other side to an aftermarket steerring knuckle. I'm sure somebody here or on the 4x4 board will come up with a picture for you.

Re: crossover steering???

Crossover steering is usually used on a truck that has been lifted. With
size 36 or bigger tires it is needed to take out the bump steer. On the
truck I am building I have installed a 8" skyjacker lift kit and will be
using 36x15.50x15" mickey t. tires. I used a flat top spindle from
a chevy truck and a late model dodge pitman arm. All of the steering rods
are made using 1-1/4" solid stainless bar with 3/4" L&R hyme joints.

I will be using these wheels with the mickey t. mtz tires instead of the
claws that are on the wheels now.

Re: crossover steering???

All that tricked out gear and they use cheesy clamp-on battery terminals.

I don't think that listing has near enough pictures, either.
