How much $$ do you have into your truck?

no, not how much money is in the glove box... but including the purchase price... about how much do you have wrapped up into your rig?
Again... more than one truck... you can vote more than once.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

In adding up all parts i have bought and paint etc. im over 10k and the truck surely isnt a gem.possibly a decent looking 15 footer no where near perfect.Granted a lot of the money is in the drivetrain.namely engines and transmissions. but its still a lot over the last 5 or 6 years. for a while every penny i made went into the truck to get it reliable when i was 15 or so to be ready for when i got my license. After the first motor bit the dust with a touch under 500 miles on it thanks to an idiot machinist who later said he doesnt believe in balancing and apparently didnt believe in checking clearances.

A little over $14,000 spent so far on the frame-off restoration with hopefully
another $4,000/$5,000 will finish it.

Well over 4K. Presently worth about $1500..wasn't a good one to try and fix but it is enjoyable and that's what counts.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

I'm guessing 8-9K. Considering i bought it in 1990 for $1800 that's really not all that much. The last two years have seen the largest infusion of $$$$$$$$. Namely an engine rebuild that got a little more radical than I intended plus all sorts of other previous mods (lowered, added disk brakes, limited slip dif, moved gas tank to under bed etc.) and new sheet metal to replace the rust adds up.

Right now its in the paint shop where I figure another 3K (I hope ) will finish it up.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

just added up the receipts: $2300.00 in parts, $350.00 in supplies.
I started with a bare 2wd frame blazer frame/on trade, parts include a salvage '71 front clip, salvage rear clip (dif + arms/springs), salvage doors, '68 fenders/rad support/grille, all new bushings/bearings/seals front/rear. supplies include primer/filler/misc. body work materials.
just bought '67 4wd/swb for misc parts, lots of salvage for sale on it, post replies for needs. thanks guys, FAST AL!

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

I started off with a '68 GMC I-6, 3 speed which I paid $1,500 for. Drove it for a summer and started a 5.0 l swap. Decided to do a complete frame off, bought a '92 3500 chassis and running gear for $2,500 and perched the '68 on top of it. Bought a southern fleetside box and stepside fenders. Extended the cab, bought $2,000 or so worth of chrome and $1,500 worth of paint. Add in the interior work and the $1,000 tranny rebuild that is happening this spring and you have yourself a nice down payment on a house.

I think that this thread would be more fun if we had to show what we spent the money on, as I did.

I have seen 1968GMC's truck and I can attest that it was $20,000 well spent.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

$800 purchase price, $800 for parts and such, $400 for misc repairs, so I figure I'm $2k into it. But I use it for a semi daily driver, work it like a truck and have had it for several years now, so I think I'm money ahead so far over buying something newer.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

Well I am way over the $15,000 more like over $25,000 in parts alone. nearly 5 years of work the last 18 months were nearly full time nights from 6pm till 1 2 or 3:30am

The truck still needs a tranny to be built by a shop that knows how to build a 700R properly.

I paid $350 and sold $400 dollars worth of parts that I decided not to use. It was basically the frame rails a cab with a good roof and a 350 block.

But in the end the 1000 thumbs up and lots of smiles from old guys in there new chevys makes it all worth it.

Now it's time to sell it buy a house build a shop and move on to a 2wd blazer thats basically the exact same as the 67.

Re: How much $$ do you have into your truck?

I don't count what I spend on my trucks. I count what I spend on taxes, loan interest, gasoline (overpriced) and a bunch of other garbage that I could care less about but am stuck paying for. My trucks are worth every cent I don't count.

Running around $20,000, but consider that I have been working on this truck spending that kind of money over 7 years, and that includes mistakes, and special tools....
