Heya, i kind of want to figure out my trucks curb weight,

68 gmc 910, normal wheelbase, stock 12bolt, wooden bed (rotten

) 350 with 4 speed super t10 from a camaro, headers with front of wheel side exit exhaust. I remember weighing one of these trucks with a 350, a bunch of stuff in the back, 2 layers of wood in the box (dont ask me) we had it on a tow bar, and it weighed 3040 lbs on a towbar (obviously this is wrong)
so do these weigh like 5000 lbs (2 wd v8 ) or do they weigh around 4200 4800? thanks in advance

My SWB GMC was just a hair under 4000
My longhorn is right at 5000

4240, with 1/2 tank fuel & the old fatman riding. I go 240, so empty that stripped old longhorn goes about 4 thou even.....she runs d@mn straight with the hammer down too(133" wb)

weighed my truck a couple months ago. '71 longbed 2wd with 350sb and th400 tranny and about 1/2 tank gas 4180 lbs.

I go to the scrapyard alot and it never ceases to amaze me how it`s always a different weight.I can`t remember any,though.

i want to know, because i wann aknow how much im going to have to swiss cheese this piece of crap to make it fast

so COUNT THAT SAND MOFO!! hahaha... and yes, i remember there being 3 sizes of wheelbase or boxes, the swb, the regular and the longhorn that had a section physically welded onto the regular box... SO PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT...haha
but ya, i remember a guy drag racing a 68 gmc, had his weight down to like 2800 lbs

I would like to get around 3600 lbs or less

if possible

BTW, not to be a jerk to everyone else, curb weight is very important for mileage and braking and acceleration, things you should be concerned with, especially if you are putting alot of money into a vehicle!

`umm mines more then i want to think about it took 6 guys to push it up the driveway the day the transmission went out ( and we must have been weak because that sucker was heavy)

My Longhorn scaled at 5525, bed empty. I weigh 155. That was at the local pulp mill, coming out empty.

I would venture to say that the weight of the truck is likely one of the last issues that should be addressed if you want to race it.....a good working setup (engine, rearend, trans, suspension....and brakes!) really should be the first thing to be addressed. If you are going to 'swiss cheese' the truck and not go into putting on fiberglass panels, you are only going to lose so much weight.
Depending on what you want the truck to look like (show racer, or just a beater) You can dump the bumpers, gut the interior of the doors and replace skins with sheet tin, single driver seat, ditch inner fenders, all accessories (outside of the alternator), tailgate, might be able to cut up the inside of the bed and cover it to keep it presentable, drilled rotors, alloy or even steel wheels....that should all be good for a couple hundred pounds....back in the 60's pontiac engineers used to actually drill 2"-3.5" holes in the frame of catalinas to make 'super duties' so I guess that is also a possibility....but not one I would explore.

yeah, pretty familiar with gutting muahhahaah, i just want some solid weights for the sake of knowing

so far we have 3660 or so for a short wheelbase, and 4000 lbs or so for a longhorn ?.... anybody else ?

1972 Ship Weight

C10 - Pickup Stepside 6/12' ..........................3560

" " Fleetside 8' ..............................4030
" " Longhorn 8 1/2' .........................3950

The ship weight
is defined as the shipping weight less fuel, coolant and lubricants.
weights per gallon ( lbs per gallon) fuel - 6; oil - 7; water 8.
There appears to be an error as to the Longhorn weight; should be heavier than shown...

I think you can get`em to 3,000lbs.I think you can leave the frame alone,except to do suspension changes.

If your not going for looks, and are gonna drag race it you could lose a bunch of pounds by removing the bed. The bad part of this would be it probably wouldn't hook up to good. Back in the 70s my uncle used to race a old ford in the 4 wheel drive races. He removed the bed, doors, interier, all the glass and eventually shortened the frame, there was a bunch of trucks like that that raced back then.

Wow, good thread, keep it goin, thanks for the info on teh shippign weightsm btw : shipping weights often dont include grease, oil in engine, oil in transmission, oil in the differential, fuel in the tank, water in the block etc!

If it was a 4x4 thatd be different, weight woudlnt matter, infact i would encourage ballast and or lots of weight for heavy duty parts.

Are the coilspring trucks heavier than their leafspring counterparts?

Is the wooden bed REALLY that heavy? I was thinking of putting thin diamondplate in for ****s and giggles...

I forgot to tell you, I forget where but I found a web page a couple years ago on the net, they were selling faberglass cabs and I think they sold fiberglass 67-72 cabs, but I definitly know they were selling 73-87 fiberglass cabs.

My 69 K10 weight ~4200 lbs ~2600 is just the front axle on the scale, and ~1600 with just the rear axle on the scale
