Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

The number is 1364768 and then there is another 3 farther over to the right by itself. It is on an automatic floor shifter, probably '60s vintage, but I haven't been able to ID what GM product it is for. Thanks in advance...

call up your local chevy dealer. they have an awsome computer system for looking this stuff up. actuly you might be better off going in. the counter people allways seem more personable in person.

That looks like a casting number?

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

Shifty - it may be a casting number, I'm not sure...it is impressed into the top of the shifter assembly, and unfortunately is the only number on the thing. Do you have access to a parts catalog that covers the 60's?

I thought of trying a dealer but figured they'd laugh me out of there when I told them it was a part from the 60's!

Here's a pic if that might help...

Chrome8, that would be great--let me know if you come up with anything or if you need any further info for the parts manager. Thanks.

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

hey man, sorry about the slow response. I had my parts man do some research. GM does not recognize that number, with or without the 3 after it. We also called it in as a casting number, invalid. That however doesn't mean it never existed. We do have the old books but there is no way to look something up by number alone. That would take forever and he won't do that. If we had the application it was in, then i could find that number in the book. That doesn't help, if you knew that you wouldn't be asking me! Sorry man, did the best we could.

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

Chrome8, thanks for checking on that for me. The closest I have come to finding a match is one that's on ebay right now. It looks very similar and the number is the same. The seller thinks it came out of a '65-67 Buick Skylark, so maybe I'll go with that. Thanks again.

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

Chrome8, you can look up the part number in the price list section of the old books, and it will tell you what group number it's in, and you might be able to find it that way. Some price books will also give a single-digit code number that will tell you which, if any, other GM division used that part.

My '69 Chevrolet price book did not show that number at all, but it might have been used by another division.

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

Hey, thanks for the tip, I checked with the parts manager and he made it sound like the price books and the catalog were seperate. He also said he threw those old price books out years ago. I don't know. He says he can't do it, i guess thats the main idea. Maybe he just doesn't want to take the time. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

Re: Can someone crunch an old GM part number?

I have some of the old books in my department and even in my history catalogs that number does not come up. Here is something to think about though, how many cars in the 60's actually had a automatic floor shifter. The only ones I can ever remember are the F, Y, and A body codes. Many of these were interchangable.
