would you do it?

I currently have a 4.10 single track rear end. I have had to go to a 29" tire to bring my highway RPM's into a liveable range( i can hear the radio... )plus the turbo 350 I have needs the springs in the governor changed because it didnt have a 4.10 behind it originally. Ok with that said.... I have a 2.73 posi rear end in my parts truck, and a friend will sell me his 3.55 gear out of his camaro for $75.00, and my friend the "professional" will swap it all out for me for $125... I'm looking at $200 bucks for a posi rear end that I can run a normal tire with. My truck is lowered (the wrong way) and tall tires look stupid on it. I guess what I'm asking is there any major cons to what I will end up with. I will never tow anything with this truck... and when it's done I will have a fiberglass top over the bed...

Is the camaro ring and pinion the same as a truck? I dont think it is.

If everything worked out, I'd do it. I think 68 Suburban is right though, I think the R&P out of the camaro is smaller, even if both are from a 12 bolt rear.

the "professional" I mentioned earlier didn't say it wouldn't work. I have no idea if it will or not. That is his profession...and he runs his own motorsports company on the side... so I hope I dont waste my time pulling the rear end out the parts heap

I was told it must be a late model 72... 2.73 in a truck supposedly didnt appear until 73

Passenger car and truck differentials and gears are not interchangeable. That's across the board. 10 bolt and 12 bolt chevrolet truck are different than 10 bolt and 12 bolt passenger car.
"Professional" is a word that is bantered around a little more than it should be it seems. Find someone who doesnt run a motorsports business "on the side". I use Dutchman Motorsports in Portland Oregon when I'm too lazy to set up a rear end. Call them and they'll tell you what you can and can't do.

I wouldve hated to go to "extra" effort....I have them questioning themselves now....after all they are Pontiac guys....no offense intended... it's still GM... I guess I'll have to keep searching for my solution...anybody have a 3.73 posi in or near Texas? I have cash...........

FYI new ring and pinion sets can be purchased for about $100, and bearing kits are about fifty bucks.

$150 for all???? i'll buy my next set from you, richmond gear in jegs= gears are $170 and installation kit is $130. but they are right car and truck parts are not interchangable, sad to say i just tossed a set of 3:73's when we put in my 4:56's, i never thought anyone would need them since they were a stock gear in trucks with inline 6. Dev.

I got my posi off of ebay new with 1 yr warranty....Its a Eaton for a 3.73 and up for $275 with about 9 dollars shipping. I think the guy sells them all the time on ebay...Except I think he sells them at $285 now.... I don't know how much you were willing to spend but for a new eaton that's not a bad price. I think he has one on now......here is a link to his seller list
