Miata, peep, etc? Mirrors with vent windows?
What do people use for side mirrors with vent windows? I don't like the stock 72 sport mirrors on anything other than a stock truck, and was thinking about either Peep mirrors hanging from the top of the door, or miata mirrors like mocwon has. Any other suggestions, and would either of those interfere with the window operation? Thanks!

I hope you get some feed back on this. My truck is in the paint shop and I'm not satisfied with the mirrors that are on it so I'm willing to hear what everyone has to say about it too.
Peep mirrors don't do anything for me but I've seen MOCWON's Miata mirrors and could be persuaded to go that route.

Re: Miata, peep, etc? Mirrors with vent windows?
I have been running the street rod peep mirrors on my truck for about four years. The rear view is honestly just a glimpse. You can't really see behind you, in my opinion. Yeah, they look good hangin' off of the tops of the doors, but they're pretty much useless for mirrors. I had to put a convex mirror (stick-on) on the right one, just to try and make it work better.
So, I'm gonna go back to the stock style on my '69. Yep, stainless support rods with 4-inch round mirrors. Or, I may have them powder coated. Ain't yet made up my mind.

Those billet specialties ones look killer! No more peep mirrors for me, as those look WAY better. I assume thats what the black and orange truck is running. Wow! Wheres a good place to purchase those? They look like they should clear the vent windows too!

Are the peep mirrors you guys talking about the ones that go on the top of the door by the vent window. If so, whats wrong with them. I'm planning on putting a set on my truck when its done, but you guys are saying there crap.

I do not think its about quality, but more about the fact that your field of view is very limited because of the size/location of the peep mirrors. Your talking like 2-3 inches in diameter and that ain't alot when you are trying a lane change on the freeway with semi's all around, get it? |

peep mirrors would be better than no mirrors, unless the sun hits it and blinds you. i plan to get 1 peep mirror for inspection and take it off for the year.

Re: Miata, peep, etc? Mirrors with vent windows?
I have peeps on both sides. The drivers side is usable, however the passenfer side is strictly for symmetry and looks. I predominately use the rear view for checkin' behind me, and a quick glance over the shoulder for lane changes.
I do like these, when money permits: And yes, as you can see, streetrod style peeps do interfere with your wing window, unless you mount them very low. Last edited by screamin_c102; 12-02-2005 at 05:51 PM. |

These trucks are not hard to drive mirrorless. It takes a bit to get good at backing into parking spots but you can get good at it. The rear view is my friend it shows omost everything I need to see. Also a way cleaner Look with out mirriors.

Re: Miata, peep, etc? Mirrors with vent windows?
i never park next to a car, if i have to, so generally i park in the back of the lot and take 2 spaces, it takes no mirrors to do that. i always turn my head when switching lanes because you can never tell who's in your blind spot, and i use the rearview mirror to look behind me most the time. no mirrors suit my needs fine, and 90% of cops are overlooking a mirror violation becasue of the clean truck they're looking at. plus with no mirror holes, there's no hints about not having mirrors, therefore it's an overlooked item. i pop it on for inspection once a year and i'm fine.

Re: Miata, peep, etc? Mirrors with vent windows?
I think side mirrors add to the character of a vehicle. I plan on using C5 or C6 (same as SSR) mirrors on my '61. They are pedestal types so they're perfect for the application.
Those billet peeps look nice. Here's what I had on my '69: 1996-19?? Furd F150 mirrors. You see them used a lot on 55-59s (available power too). |
