Hey guys
I am in the process of starting to refinish a new cab project of mine. The sealer that is in the drip rail is all dried, cracked, and falling out. I had orignially considered shaving it but am not sure. What kind of sealer do you use if i decide to keep it?

What I use is 3M automix #8307 self leveling seam sealer.

I think shaving is hard, and if you drive in the rain at all or your truck sits outside, you'll live to regret it.

3m body caulk -- water based. Clean out rail completely down to the bare metal. Read the instructions if you should prime before applying or not. If rust is found use a converter first. It can be smoothed if needed with a wet finger.

Body caulk will tend to crack over time. I used the 3M 8307 seam sealer and it is as close to factory as you can get...only better. Just make sure you clean out the old stuff/rust & paint.

Agree with Botietruck, I used seam sealer in a caulking tube --it was water based.

3M Fast N Firm Seam Sealer

3M Fast 'N Firm Seam Sealer is a firm setting product for sealing interior and exterior joints. Adheres well to clean, bare metal, primed metal and paint surfaces. Skins over quickly. Low shrinkage. Can be painted within 20 minutes. Excellent tooling and sanding properties.

I agree. I owned my 72 Malibu for 5 or 6 years before I bought my 71 convertible. The hard top 72 has drip rails. I never thought about what drip rails do. Then one day I was in the convert with the top up because I was caught in a rain storm. The rain quits so I roll down the windows. The first corner I went around dumped all the water on the roof into the open window.

How much of the 3M automix #8307 would be needed to do our trucks? I see that they are sold in 200ml packs...Is one 200ml kit all that is needed, or does it need more than one?

I used Fast & Firm, but didn't like it. It was easy to use, but took about a month(no kidding) to completely dry, and now is starting to crack.
