Computer control box installation.
Does anyone have a pic of how the silver control box and plastic retainer tray fasten behind the glove box on on an 87 chevy pick up. Pic would be a great help. Thanks.

Is that the right thing? I thought that was a prehistoric ignition computer of sorts. It's an '85 model if that matters... |

Re: Computer control box installation.
Same idea as the 87, but the 87 is bigger. That's the ECM in the pic I believe. The 87 is a little bigger and has more wires coming out of it. Thanks, that gives a basic idea of where it goes. I am putting an 87 fuel injected motor in a 86 cab and had to change the whole wiring harness and the person that was helping took the unit out before i had a chance to see to see how it was installed. The 86 was already out when I got it. Thanks again guy's.

Re: Computer control box installation.
Sorry...no pictures to share but i am well aware of the how it goes together part. 87 up cabs have a recessed section in the interior section of the firewall above the heater box. I actually learned this lesson the hardway as i thought i'd be slick and mount the ecm in my 76 chalet in such a manner so i went to gm and ordered the bucket...the screws and the two weld on brackets that everything attaches too. At this point and armed with all the parts i realized plan b was necessary unless i wanted to remove my entire dash and french in the firewall so i could use the parts i bought. So for me plan be was obtaining a grommet for the ecm harness from a boneyard....removing a heater box from a spare K5 out back...determining i could mount the ecm directly to the heater box and never get near enough to having a screw puncture the heater core. So i nabbed some sections of aluminum cab structure from a frieghtliner sleeper to provide to pieces of aluminum angle iron to mount the ecm to....and since heat and ecms don't play well together i used some really thick silver backed reflective material to shield the ecm. I then hit the junkyard and scrounged 4 ecm mounting screws used on gm cars....the plastic spud looking ones that are sometimes used by gm to locate the ecm in a mount....then i drilled 6 holes thru the aluminum angle....and used gm screws used with fiberglass components as they have two sets of threads. And its worked for over a year now with no ill effects. Sorry to be long winded but i thought i'd share my alterative approach to the matter as my first go around wasn't so pretty in my 79 blazer.
Basically if you have a CCC cab forward which i would have to guess the ill fated expensive CCC carbs hitting the scene in 84-85 the cabs have the notch in the firewall for the ecm bucket for lack of a better term. That being said the cab should allready have the two brackets with the z bends in them tack welded in this area. I gave away a complete set of brackets...bucket and the strap that holds in the ecm last year at blazer bash but i think i still have one bucket upstairs in the attic. Hope this helps you out. Doug W.

Re: Computer control box installation.
I thought that there should have been tabs there as well, 76. I looked last night and could not find them. Cab is an 86 as that is what the ownership and the guy I bought it frm says. Will have to take a better look today and make sure. Thanks for all the help.
PS thanks to everyone for the help and sorting out the misunderstandings.
