Got a new job!

I've been working for myself cutting grass and working on trucks for the past couple years and I needed something better to do so I got a job at the junkyard. I work from 3:45-5:00 monday through friday, and 9:00-2:00 on saturday. I started out at 5 bucks an hour. It's awesome but it sucks at the same time. I helped cut the front crossmembers and rear ends out of 73-87 1 ton duallies today. Most were crewcabs and were in good shape, a couple just needed an engine. I know if he gets any k20's or k30's in I'm going to make sure I save one! Just thought it was awesome that I got this job.

Re: Got a new job!

Sounds like you will enjoy working there. That yard ever get any pre-72 stuff in there, be it trucks or cars?

Re: Got a new job!

Yeah there's a couple 68-72 trucks out there but they're picked over. He gets a couple 1950's-1960's Chevy cars and trucks every once in awhile. Most of 'em get crushed though. There's a 80 something chevy 3500 that's gonna get hacked up first thing on monday along with a late 70's GMC welding truck that I'm going to buy the bed off of.

And the pay is another thing I've already talked to him about. But hey it's a start! I said something about 12 bucks an hour and it seemed like he went along with it, we'll see.

That's correct, $5.15 is Federal minimum wage. Never heard of a state minimum wage since it's Federal law.

Re: Got a new job!

Sounds like a fun job!
As a side note states can make laws that override federal laws as long as they are stricter. Hence the higher min wage in WA.

Re: Got a new job!

.15 cents really doesn't matter to me, he didn't really have to give me the job since he already has a couple other guys out there doing stuff, and I don't want to make this some kind of legal problem! Hell he even buys us stuff to drink while we're out there. NO it's not beer.

Joe, I think there might be a couple out there. I'll look around on Monday and see what I can find. What town is he headed to?

Re: Got a new job!

Well, since it is probably under the table, then you're doing better off than some one making almost 6 bucks an hr, plus the discount you'll be getting on your invintory.

Either way around it, it's money, and in all reality, a pretty cool job.
