Longhorn Options Question

Were Longhorns normally equipped with a lot of options, or were they more bare work trucks? Here is the options on my 72 Longhorn that I am copying from the copy of the original order form for my truck. I'll post the prices for the options too, maybe some will think they're interesting. I hope to post pics soon, but I couldn't figure out quick tonight, so it'll have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Model CE21034 $3088.00
tinted glass-18.00, sliding rear window-51.00, belt moulding-41.00, 4 season air cond.-410.00, camper mirrors stainless-50.00, front&rear shocks-15.00, front stabilizer-18.00, auxiliary spring-41.00, 400 cu V8-169.00, turbo hydramatic-246.00, power steering-128.00, Chrome hubcaps-10.00, 750X16X8 front tires-30.46, 750X16X8 rear tires-38.06, 750X16X8 spare-66.58, camper wiring-15.00, radio-67.00, tool & storage box-46.00, Cheyenne equipment-242.00, Guages(ammeter, oil)-12.00.
Total delivered price $4884.10 in 1972

Why do the tires cost extra, are they not what they normally came with or something?

Re: Longhorn Options Question

those are bigger than base model tires.
Longhorns seem to be a little more likely to be loaded...but there were plenty of stripped down ones too.
That looks liek a pretty nicely optioned 3/4 ton longhorn.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

My 69 longhorn had 396/400, p/s, upper and lower moulding, mirrors, and radio. Nothing else.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

I wish mine came with the tool box!
But, I can definately deal with the auxiliary gas tanks in that location over this!

Re: Longhorn Options Question

<---- mine. You'd think with that many options, it would lose the farm truck vibe.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

asickber, in 72, there was an extra digit added to the VIN, C for chevs, and T for GMC.
So we already know you have a Chevy 2 wheel drive with a V-8.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

Thanks Longhorn Man, I just always thought they started with CE. I guess that shows how much I know. Still got a lot to learn.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

My April 1, 1969 Truck Data Book shows both 6 (CS21034 &CS31034) and 8-cylinder (CE21034 and CS31034) versions of the Longhorn. After that, you have to look at each item of equipment to see what was standard. Beyond that, all of the "normal" options and upgrades were available for the 20 and 30-series trucks, with limitations.

So, even though we tend to think that they were created for the recreational vehicle market, they were basically available as just plain pick ups with longer beds and minimal amenities.

After that, it just cost money to make it like you wanted it to be.

The Longhorn WAS in fact made for the camper market. It is all over the 68 Longhorn books. Yes, there was a CE model, and a CS model, both in one ton and in 3/4 ton, and in base model, they had nothing a normal truck would have...except an extended bed with a wooden floor and H.D. rear springs.
NHo one said they automaticly came with camper options, just that they were generally optioned with more than the typical truck.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

no 4 wheel drive longhorns were ever built by GM.
There MAY have been an after production outfit modifying some... but of the 3 or 4 4X4 longhorns I've seen, they were all owner moddified.

Re: Longhorn Options Question

In Maine, besides my Longhorn, Ive seen two other longhorns. One is down at a local junkyard, the other was under a camper. Both of those were 3/4 tons, and both were relatively un-optioned, with the one under the camper even having a radio delete. I was thinking that a standard camper package would include a 350/turbo 4oo, power steering and brakes, and guages. The one in the junkyard is a fairly base truck as well.
It seems to me, just an observation mind you, that people out west tended to get more options and bigger engines than the thrifty (cheapskate?) New Englanders.
My Longhorn is fairly well optioned:

Re: Longhorn Options Question

As far as camper package (Custom Camper) that is only H.D. tires, springs, shocks and a front sway bar.
