Radi. Core Support Bushing Questions

well i am now in the process of trying to put on the radi. core support to the frame. i bought the energy susp. kit for my truck & the body bushings worked great. i am not having such great luck with the radi core support though. the bushings don't seem to fit snug in the hole of the frame mount. the "flange" of the bushings are smaller then the whole in the frame, by about a good 3/4". the wholes in the frame measure the same dia. of 1-11/16" give or take. so i am wondering if anyone here has replaced their bushings there & what their fit was like? i called energy suspension & i have the correct bushings to them, but they could not answer how the bushings fit within the frame hole. i am under the impression that the "lip" of the bushing should fit snug in the frame hole. if not then wouldn't the radi. core support want to move around within the whole of the frame???? if you guys have any good pics of how your front radi support is mounted to the frame that would be a good help as well. the truck is a '72 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd short box.

thanks for the help in advance!!!

Re: Radi. Core Support Bushing Questions

I just installed a prothane body mount kit on the blazer. I noticed the same thing, bushings are smaller than hole in radiator support. I don't think it will matter much as the bushings are designed mostly for vertical loading and not so much for lateral, hence the sloppy fit is acceptable..........I hope.

Re: Radi. Core Support Bushing Questions

The stock ones are the same way, you need some room for adjustment side to side so the front clip centers on the bumper and frameand some fore and aft adjustment to line up with the cab and doors.

green machine
you are probably right. it just seems that with that much room the support would be easy to push one side to the other. what keeps the support from doing that???

thanks for your responses. please keep them coming!

Re: Radi. Core Support Bushing Questions

I guess when the bolt gets tightened, there must be enough clamping force to keep it from sliding around ???

Re: Radi. Core Support Bushing Questions
