Hey guys,i have had some trouble with my brakes and i though i could fix it but i guess i was wrong.lol.first i will let you know what it has been doing. When i push on the pedal sometimes it is like i have no assist most of the time, even when i pump the brakes i just get power brakes some of the time, now for what i have done,i have a new booster that does work because when i pull the vac hose off of it i can hear it release the air inside, also i have put new pads on the front.any other ideas i can try to get them to work like they should?what else would you suggest?Thanx for any help i can get!!

Re: More brake help please
Has your truck always had power brakes, or did you add them yourself.... is it possible you hooked up the the wrong vacuum port?

Re: More brake help please
You could have a bad carb or bad booster? I'm guessing when you pull the hose with the engine running you can hear it constantly sucking air? Your saying your brakes work, but you have no power assist, right? maybe your new booster is bad?

Re: More brake help please
A question? Did you pull the check valve out of the booster or just the hose? On mine when I pull the check valve it slaps real hard like a spring snapping. If I pull the hose no sound.

Re: More brake help please
the vac line for the power brakes should not be hooked to the carb but to the intake manifold you get more vac from the intake and makes the brakes work better

Re: More brake help please
Every vacuum booster I ever saw was in the back of the carb it is the same as the manifold. Do you have a vacuum gauge you could put on it to see if the hose is good. Most have a metal tube from the carb to just above the valve covers then change to rubber to the check valve. It is a very stiff hose so it won't collapse with the vacuum.

Re: More brake help please
No accurate way. Pull the hose and put your finger over it start the truck and see if it pulls on your finger then after it is running take your finger off and see if the engine stumbles or dies. If the hose collapses it will stay running smooth. this should be done when the engine is warmed up.
