Canadian Gauges?
I was just looking closely at the gauge cluster in my donor '84 Blazer.
The oil pressure is measured in kPa and goes from 0 to 400. The temp gauge is celcius and goes from 40 to 125. The fuel gauge doesn't have an E and an F but little characters representing empty, half and full. The weirdest one is the speedometer, or more specifically the odometer. It is 6 places with a 1/10 of a mile spot (total of 7). It reads 181098.7. I've never seen a 6 place odometer in this vintage gauge cluster. I would guess it is a Canadian spec truck except MPH is dominant in the speedo?

Re: Canadian Gauges?
The six digit odometer is found in most (if not all) medium duty Chevy/GMC trucks made in the U.S. I've seen 25 or 30 medium duty clusters (while robbing the factory tachs) and they all had 6 digits. The gauges for the charging system and fuel are standard issue for 80/81- 87/91 style clusters. I think the fuel gauge changed from the E and F style when the speedo went to 85 mph. Don't know about the oil and temp gauges.

I think that around this time GM just threw whatever gauges in these trucks.

You are correct about GM using whatever parts they had laying around. In the words of Captkaos "We're dealing with GM here so nothing is chiseled in stone". |

Re: Canadian Gauges?
The fuel gauge is definately Canadian - the F and E letters are always replaced by symbols in order to not conflict in English/French canadian markets. New vehicles, today will have the same differences.

Re: Canadian Gauges?
My truck was built at the Oshawa, Ontario plant and delivered to Alberta and I've got oil pressure in PSI , a temp gauge that goes from C to H, and an E to F fuel gauge. At least they left the speedometer in km/h. At least they left the speedometer in km/h.

Re: Canadian Gauges?
I bought a Canadian Cluster from Russell, and it has the normal markings for full and empty on the gas tank. Everything on the cluster is the same, minus the speedo which is prodimiatly(sp?) in Khm, instead of Mph, but it looks like a 120 mph speedo which is why I did it.

Re: Canadian Gauges?
I stand very corrected - my bad... Apparantly we'll go back to the original theory that GM is more random than logic... Apologies...
