This is for 67-72 trucks / blazers based on my personal and collected info from other members.

33's require no lift on 8 inch and sometimes 10 inch wheels. (depends on backspacing for the wider wheels. 4 is best for wheeling.

35's require a minimum of 4 inches (show queen). 6 is best for wheeling.

36's require a minimum of 4 inches (show queen). 6 is best for wheeling.

37's require a minimum of 6 inches (show queen). 8 is best for wheeling.

38's require a minimum of 8 inches (show queen). 10-12 is best for wheeling.

40's require a minimum of 10 inches (show queen). 12+ is best for wheeling.

chime in if you run something larger.

All info is based on actual measured sizes OD, not stamped sizes. IE 40 inch hawgs are really closer to 38's and 38.5 hawgs are really closer to 36's. Parnelli Jones 38's are actually 38.2. I think you get the idea.

Stock fenders with no trimming also.

Do we need to add tire widths to this chart? Like some 38"s are only 12.50" {TSL's} and some are 15.50". My question is what would be the best rim width for a 37x14.50.15"? Thanks a lot for the chart.

My guide would be using wide sizes already factored in. IE I run a 38x15.50 with 9 inches. I think best rim width would be a different thread. (although I would use a 10-12 inch rim)

Rim off-set or backspacing is not the only factor in the larger tires. Rim width itself can make a difference in diameter. As it has been stated, the tire size printed on the tire is generally an exaggerated number. The typical 38-40-42-44 inch tires will measure about 2 inches smaller when mounted on a 10" wheel. Although it sounds backward, when you mount the 40" and up tires onto a 12" or 14" wheel.......they will get bigger. Most people think that stretching these tire onto wider wheels will shorten them. Actually the 10" wheels are squeezing them. When they are opened-up on bigger wheels, they will grow.....sometimes as much as the 2" that they were short in the first place. When you go this route, you will have more off-set. You cannot get a wheel that wide centered on the hub surface, they would hit the steering gear and would shorten your turning radius because they hit the springs while turning if you could make them fit. So you have effectively gained two problems at the same time..........larger diameter and more off-set. If you use wider wheels you will have to have more clearance/lift, especially if you off-road your truck.

33's with 2in lift is ok for all around use, right? I was planning on putting add-a-leafs on my truck with 285s. Right now it has 32's on 17" lockrim wheels
(7.00x17). No rubbing whatsoever. (Maybe because theyre 4-5inches wide

36 TSLs on my '72 hit the backs of the fenders under compression, when at or near steering lock. Enough to 'massage' the fenders

Here is some more info for ya all. I recently installed 37"x13.50"x17" on my 67' with 4" springs and 1 1/2" longer shackles.Maybe 5"-5.5" of lift total. I have no bed on the truck. The tires rubbed the fender hook it front of the front tire.I sawzall'd about a 1 1/2" triangle off that corner and they don't rub at all except under extreme flex. I mean with 1 tire at least 36" off the ground
on a ramp. Then it rubs very little behind the front tire.This is when the wheel is strait.Under full lock it does not rub the fenders only my rock sliders

I've read before that you can measure the distance across the tread section of the tire, & get a rim that size or the closest size smaller. Supposedly this is the right way to do it.

ok. I am going to get an 8" suspension lift (skyjacker soft ride). and am gonna put 1" zero rate add a leafs in the read to not only correct saggy but, but also relocate the axle to where it should be in the fenderwell. am also going to be putting new body mounts, while im in there will be putting in a 1" body lift. just because 1" wont be bad, and ill be in there anyway.

my question is. with a total of 9" front and 10" rear. do you think i will be ok to run 39.5-13.5-16 Irock radials?

I do not want to do ANY cutting whatsoever.

Nathan... I would tell you that it would work.... but I am not 100% sure.... I used to have around 9 - 10 lift that fit 37's fine... but I upgraded to 42's and had to trim the front just a bit.... you might be fine. Trevor

If you trim but still maintain the original lines of the fenders route.

Some additional clearance can be gained but not as much as you might think.
The inner fenders then become the issue.
2"/3" larger tire is all you'll get for your efforts with same lift numbers.

Great topic but does anyone know about the 73-87's?

I ran 33's stock on it with no trimming, no hitting offroad either. Now I have a four inch lift and would like to run some 36-38 inch tires on it. With that being said maybe it's a good thing some are overrated, meaning I can buy 38's and they be listed as such but actually be smaller then 38 and work better.

I have 33x10.5x15 on 15x8 rims and they work great. PA is strict on not having tires outside the fenders so i went this route. No lift on a 68 K-10...

I had a 6 inch super comp lift and have 35x 15.50x15 TSL Swampers and they hit on a hard turn to left or right. I didnt want to cut either so I have since went with a ORD Rear shackle flip with 4 inch drop and 4 inch Sky jacker spring in the rear with a 8 inch Lift in the front with the heavy duty Front Shackles from ORd in the front. Its is Fine now and with the shackle flip it rides way better night and day difference.

33x15.5x16.5 on 16.5x12 w/ 3.5 back spacing will rub at full turn w/ 2.5" front/2" rear lift. 4" of lift will work perfect.

I am running a tuff country 6" spring lift, on a 72 K20, dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear. 38-13-16 TSL's on a 16 x 8 wheel with 4.5 " backspace, front fenders are trimmed up front even with the bottom of the core support, no other trimming done, and tires just barely rubbed the rear of the back wheel well openings( like rubbed the paint off only), under extreme flexing while doing some rock crawling in an old river bed. this with a set of very soft springs, with a little trimming, it should never rub.

i got a skyjacker 6in with procomp 37's
it only eats a little bit of the fender under full articulation, but with that lift i got no chance of fully buying the tire in teh tire well..
they are on 16in rims x10 and 12.50 wide,
the mickey t 38 a15.50's rubbed my suspension and inner wells alot i hated them tooo big

am am having a hard time trying to decide how much lift to go with. My 71 super custom 3/4ton has a 4" lift and I put a on a set of bald 36/12.50/16 TSL's a buddy had and they rubbed the front fender like crazy. The tire I want to run is a 35/14.50 bogger would 6 inch's be enough or would 8 inch's be better. I have the ORD shackle flip on the way so the rear would be at 8 inches already?

Also how wide of rim and backspacing would you recomend for the 35/14.50?

I`d go with 8" if you want full suspension cycle up front.It`s the width that called for it.I`d run regular old 10" rims.I used to run 14.50/37s on 10 rims and that was fine.It`s about like running 12.50s on 8" rims.

I have this same set up on the wifes truck 16.5 x 12 w. 3.5 in BS still rubbed when you turn on 73-87. Were you doing this on a diff gen truck?

so this forum suggests that a 33x12.50R15 will fit on a stock K10 with an eight inch wide wheel? I haven't tried it on mine yet but from appearances it doesn't look like there would be that much room. There is LT235/75R15 on it now and I would love to be able to go up to the 33" any more input from anyone?
