Hey all, thought Id share the solution to my little gas problem. My truck started running real rough and I tried everything I knew how to do (tune up stuff mostly). Finally gave it up and took it in to have it fixed. They rebuilt my carb and it ran great! After another tank of gas it started running like crap again so I took it back. Carb all gunked up again. Turns out I had stuff in my tank. So, I got a new in-cab tank from brothers (fit perfectly by the way) and replaced it and took a good look in the old one. The old one had a brown layer inside that was breaking down and making it through by new fuel filter (very fine stuff)

Turns out about 10 years ago I had the tank dipped and sealed, now the sealer is breaking down and gumming up the works. Thought I would pass this along in case there are other guys out there using a tank that has been sealed.

Also, I have read of acetone being added into gas by the stations and by vehicle owners. While that is all fine, it will disolve any tank liner. I think that is what heppend to me. I believe the station down the street is adding acetone.

Anyway, I should finally have my truck back this week!

What sealer did you use Kreem? have seen many horror stories with that stuff and it is solvent based. The product I use will barely come off with dynamite. Coated my first tank 1982 and still looks good.

I have no idea. It was done by the radiator shop 10 years ago. I dont know if it went on brown, but now it is a brown color...

What's the purpose of acetone in gasoline anyway?

Acetone is an industrial solvent- petroleum based but with a much lower flash point than gasoline-My guess is a station would add it to bump up the octane rating of their fuel-I haven't priced it lately but it would probably get expensive to add it in any large quantity plus it would be hard on all of their equipment too-by itself it will swell o-rings and break down rubber hoses. Just my .02

It also helps MPG most of the time, but I doubt that they would add it for that reason
