WTB in cab gas tank

Please help! I got my transfer to Jackson Mississippi and now have to drive my truck 2000+ miles. I only have a saddle tank with about 11-12 gallons useable fuel capacity. I wanted to do a blazer tank conversion but never did. Cab tank I had was heavily rusted so I took it out.

Does anyone in Nor Cal have a GOOD in cab tank I can have or buy fairly cheap?

Thanks for any leads.
Rich

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

You could have mine. I also have two saddle tanks you could have also that I used to fill. The one behind my seat has a ding on the filler lip and I could smell fumes (outside) when I fill it up. I have another one I was planning on replacing it with but haven't looked in it for awhile. You could have the one behind my seat if the other one I have isn't too bad inside. I've been using it this way since I owned the truck. I may have another one , I just can't remember if I gave it away or not. All three have sending units and two are definitely 1972 and the other one if still here is a 71 or 72

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

Thanks guys. I need to get one this week. They have me flying in on the 26th to report on Dec. 27th. Dunno when I'll get turned loose to come back and get my truck. Regardless, I won't have time to look around for parts. Gonna go junk-yardin for hardware tomarrow. They got one over at chevy land for $200 and tax. Hate to drop that kind of cash on something I want to get rid of!

Greenhorn, thanks for the offers. I am kinda gun shy with fuel contamination. That's the reason I tossed my cab tank before gettin the blazer tank set-up. If ya got a cab tank that you know is not rusted up inside I would love to have it. It would be worth the drive. I might could use a passenger saddle tank if it is a wheel-well filler neck. I don;t want to cut my bed-side.

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

I'm not sure when I could remove the one in my truck. I need to check my spare tank first to make sure they're the same. I just filled-up the one in my truck. I'll check and see tomorrow if I still have the other one and look inside to make sure it has no rust.
The saddle tanks would require cutting the bedside to access the filler.

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

Several Years ago, before I had my truck painted; removed the 2 saddle tanks and had the fill pipes moved so that they could be filled from the fender well...Don't recall what this job cost but it was worth doing IMO as I did not like side fill... Had these holes welded shut and filled before I had truck painted.....

Too bad I'm on the wrong end of your trip, cuz I got one you can have in my shed. Came out of my 70 when I swapped cabs. Glad to hear you're joining the Mississippi band of brothers.

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

$200. for an in-cab tank---Yikes. Around here they give them away!! Why not just drive it with the smaller tank and put a couple of 5 gal filler cans in the bed. You are cutting your fill up range in half but---? So you stop more often for gas and a rest~~! You can then do what you need to do when you get to Miss.

Re: WTB in cab gas tank

Greenhorn, I'd honestly rather spend $200 than put a member against the wall for time.

Huck, my wife actually suggested the gas can route. I had never even considered it. Ya, get kinda TOO focused I guess. I was gonna do that...

But since John is here to save my bacon...

Mr. Fabris, pm on the way!

Careful Eric, my stuff is HEAVY. Dunno how the move is gonna work out. We do not have a place yet. Gotta find out if the moving company will store stuff or not.

Rodstored-72, thanks for the offer man. I do appreciate it but looks like I am gonna drive over to the bay tomarrow.

Good Luck in Jackson. Let us all know when you get there and get settled.
My son's not far from you in Moss Point (Pascagoula) Mississippi

Glad to hear you got a tank. I still have a nice one setting out FREE for the taking if anybody needs it. Sorry no shipping on this one.

Will do. Will either update my "Buggin" thread or start a new "Chickenwings Travels" thread. I plan on being in Pascagoula quite a bit... Your boy into 67-72's also?

Well, maybe you remember how to get to my place also.
When you head out to Krue's place, be sure to look for the
4' x 4' white mailbox

You might want to get Bill to explain that one!!! It's a story all by itself!
