454 to 292 Engine Swap.
I am taking a 454 out of a 1980 4x4 and installing a 292. Does anyone have a picture of the passenger side bracket that bolts to the frame and crossmember and has the engine mount bolted on it? Thanks, John.

Re: 454 to 292 Engine Swap.
My brother wanted the 454 for something else. I got the truck for my 17 year old son, 6 cylinders is enough! 1980 Chev. 4x4 shortbox 6 cyl. standard with 3/4 ton housings, pretty neet first vehicle. Thanks for the link, it helps some except that the crossmember and brackets are different in a 4x4. John.

haha i'd be p***** if my dad gave me a 454 truck and stole the 454 in place of a 292... as in, I would cry, then disown him.

Re: 454 to 292 Engine Swap.
Thats why I'm the Dad and he's the son and until he can put me down, thats the way it's going to stay! Seriously though, my brother owned the truck first, I got it from him minus the engine, front and rear housings, and lift kit. I've swapped in the 3/4 ton housings and new springs, now I have to install the 292. Down the road we might look for a good 350, or convince my brother to give up one of his 327's, but for now this will get us mobile. John.

Ok, what you need is this catalogue. www.lmctruck.com Order it!!! It's FREE!! You'll find every nut and bolt you need to install the 292. I agree. Teach your son to drive responsibly. I've seen too many kids killed in wreckless driving. I have a coworker that clips pictures and stories of kids getting hurt. He passes those pictures and stories to his son. Hopefully the reality will sink in.

That 292 will pull hard if its running good. Plenty of 4x4 fun. I've even seen some 79-80's with 292's. The inliner's love them. How are you going to hook the power steering back?

Re: 454 to 292 Engine Swap.
The 292 came with pump installed. The only snag was the hoses on the existing steering box use o-ring and the pump on the 292 use flair fitting. I had a new hose made up today with o-ring on one end and flair on the other. Next problem is the outlet on the top of the radiator is smaller than the thermostat housing on the 292. Guess I'll figure that one out tomorrow, John.
