swapping np205 for a 208

Can anybody tell me whats involved with this? The 208 has a 27 spline input but looks to be about 2 in. longer than the 205. Trans is a th350. They both have a rear slide yoke. If the 208 will bolt on, do I just have to shorten the driveshaft? Thanks for any info

Both T-Cases are 27 Spline, but the NP208 mates to a different style Turbo 350, with a different adapter.

The Turbo 350 for the NP205 is a short shaft
The Turbo 350 for the NP208 is a long shaft

Not sure why your doing this.Maybe a little more info on the vehicle and components you`re using would help.I`m assuming your vehicle has a TH350,TH400,or a manual 4spd.I see most people wanting to swap a 700r4 into a pre-o/d rig with a NP205 or they have a newer o/d equipped rig and want the tougher NP205 in place of the lighter newer t-cases.Give a little more info.

Re: swapping np205 for a 208

OK, here's the deal. The truck I'm working on is a 80 1/2 ton with 350cid/turbo350/205tc. There is some nasty grinding noise when in 4high and hubs locked. I think its the transfer case. I have 700r4 and np208 from 84 blazer. Will the 208 fit on the turbo 350 or should I replace both units with the 700r4/208

That`s what I would do,use the 700r4.It would be easier than adapting and you`d get o/d.Try to isolate that noise first, though.
