i was looking into buying a set of them to put on my 69 c10. they're 20"x8.5" and they have the same bolt pattern (6 lug). i put a set of american racing wheels (for 88-up full size chevy) on my truck a while ago just temporarily. and they were tuckin in the wheel wells. so i believe im gonna get a spacer for the wheels. i was wondering if anyone ever tried to put newer style wheels on 67-72s? is there anything i need to do or know? thanks...

You should get some good responses on here, but I know only that the bolt pattern is the same as the older 6-lug pattern. The difference is in mounting it to the older vehicles....spacers and etc. Should look good, though. I'll keep watching to see what is needed, just for my own info.

My neighbor put a set of 2001 16" rims on his 64 stepside and they fit great and look killer.

the center hole is probably too small on the new wheels, and the back spacing will probably be all wrong, tucking the wheels in too much, which could cause rubbing in corners, and look funny.... like a fat man on stilts.

I bought a set of wheels off of a 2002 Chevy Silverado to go on my 69 and the lugs were the same but I think the hole in the center of the back wheel would n't fit. I was really hurt because I had already bought newtires and had them mounted. Lucky for me the manager of Firestone was kind enough to let me return them.

It's not hard to pull the rear axles and have the flanges turned down to fit the newer style wheels. That's what I did. Cost me $50. But you are definitely going to have to run spacers out back. I've got 1-1/2" spacers out back with 20x8.5" wheels with 5.25" backspacing. Hope that helps ya.

You will have to machine the center hole out to make them a DIRECT fit. The '99-up trucks also have longer lug studs, also. The wheel backspacing ,...I think,... is 5 inches. So the spacers might be the answer answer to all the problems. Also the tires from the factory were 275/55-20's. This is a tall tire. You might want to try and purchase the rims only,... and use a shorter tire. (245/40-20, 255/35-20, etc.)

Boring out the hub of the wheel is the ghetto way to do it. If you do that, not only will you have to do all 4 wheels (if you want to be able to rotate your tires), but what happens if he decides to go to another set of wheels? Better to just fix it the right way the first time.
Lolife is right about the tires though. The factory tires are about 29.5" tall. Lotta meat there..... It'll make the truck look rather goofy IMO.
