Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
My heater core started to leak in my 71 1/2 ton. I does not have air conditioning. The PO had installed a core from a ford about 15 years ago. This was done because it was slightly bigger in dimension than the stock core. I must now replace it and do not have a clue on how to source one out. Has anyone else put a larger core in and what application is it for? I was told that the heater box was not modified so I can use the stock one if I can't figure out what is in there now. I really like the idea of a bigger core to blow more heat.
Thanks Jason |

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
A new clean core will blow a lot of heat , but I'm not as far north as you are, there was a thread on here recently about using the motor and fan from a newer chevy truck with a/c to get better airflow, but can't rember what he used. Sorry no help on the F**D core.
Found the thread, but I think it is for 73-87 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=166446

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
remove the core, and go to a radiator shop, they should be able to match it up if they know how to use there books, we do it all the time.
And if all else fails, stock replacement will keep you warm. |

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
I just replaced mine this past fall, I went down to the Parts Plus autoparts store and bought a new heater corp for about $25, you could aslo get one from Napa as well. They even had it in stock.

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
I need to post pics of the redneck engineered IH heater that cam with my last blazer. It was mounted under the dash with bungee cords and the fan was taped to the back of it using a cereal box.

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
I just replaced my heater core and fan in the blazer and it keeps that thing pretty warm, new parts should keep a truck cab very warm..

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
I removed the heater core and one of the outlet fittings fell off. I cleaned it up real good, soldereded it up and pressure tested it with 100 psi. No Leaks. I reinstalled it and it blew incredible heat. Thanks for the repies.

Re: Ford Heater Core in a Chevy?
100 psi, holy crap! Glad that thing didn't blow up since our cooling system pressures are only about 15 psi. Nice to hear you've got heat again.
