Lowering the rear with coils- track bar?

I am planning to drop the rear of my 70' with either 4" or 5" coils. How much will this shift the rear of my truck?. I'm assuming the 5" will shift it to where I need a track bar. Correct?

thats definately enough that you will need and adjustable track bar

Over 5" will require adjusting the length of the track bar which can be accomplished different ways. Two of those ways are cutting the stock bar to the desired length required to center the rear @ the new lowered ride height or spending the money for an adjustable bar.

The adjustable bar is easier & modifying the stock bar is less money. Which do you have more of: time or money?

70c10, heres a picture of the rear of my '69c/10 with 6" springs and an adjustable super track bar from ECE. the longer bar greatly reduces side to side movement during suspension travel.

After reading this again, Scoti says "over" 5" needs one and mike nutt has a 6" drop. Is it possible 5" may work without the adjustable bar?.

going 5 your definately going to have the rear shifted to one side screwing up all the suspension geometry.

The more you lower it, the more the rear shifts over to the pass side.

I know you can get away w/a 5" drop w/o an adjustable bar (or longer, super track bar) because my buddy was too cheap to buy one when we did his 65. Whether it works or not on your combo is directly related to how wide the wheel/tire combo is & what kind of backspacing you have.

To make sure the tires won't rub, use an adjustable bar.

lol alright. think about it this way. every little bit the truck lowers the track bar becomes more paralell with the rear instead of an angle sooo... the rear gets pushed further to the passenger side with every inch you lower it down. the truck will actually track crooked down the road. you need to have the rear lined up with the front end otherwise you will never have proper alignment on the truck.plus it will stress the bushings in the trailing arms a lot.

on the topic of adjustable track bars, what applications require going from an adjustable bar to a track bar kit? If I understand correctly the track bar kit changes the mount point on one end of the bar, but I guess I don't get the circumstances where that becomes necessary. I have an adjustable bar that I have not installed yet, I have 4 inch dropped coils on the rear of my burb and was planning on putting the bar and a set of 1 1/2 inch lowering blocks on at the same time.

Anything lower than 4" I would recommend at least a super track bar. The adjustable track bar that has a different mounting point is obviously ideal but not totally necessary IMO. I'm at 5-1/2" drop out back (4" coils and 1-1/2" blocks) and I've got CPP's super track bar, which is basically similar to the stock panhard bar but it can be lengthened or shortened to accomodate a particular drop. My rear end is centered and I don't have any issues with my truck not tracking straight. Back on point.....If you go more than 4", you're gonna need at least the super track bar as the rear end DEFINITELY gets off center and becomes worse the lower you go.

thanks 67 Fleet, I bought my adjustable bar without even knowing there were different options on the mounting points. sounds like I'll be just fine with what i've got since its working for you. I appreciate the reply!!!!!
