4wd to 2wd

Can I just put a 2wd crossmember and suspension in the front of my blazer to make it 2wd. I have an extra one and have always wanted a lowered blazer so I would rather convert it than have to try and find one.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

Yep you can do it. Most of the holes are there, but it's more than just the crossmemeber. You also need to swap out the steering box in addition to a few more little issues. I think somebody here has done one. Might search for it.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

i am located in Yorba Linda, CA. 2wd blazers are pretty hard to find around here. Whenever I see one in the paper or the truck trader I dont have any money, and now that I have some money none are to be found.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

Naw Im pretty set on just converting one because I can get a running 91 with power everything and lit vanity mirrors for 2200. The 91 is gonna have power everything, fuel injection, better seats, all that crap. An older one doesnt have it. I want to make this my daily driver because my 89 on 35s doesnt get the best fuel mileage.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

I see. I have a 77 2wd that I can't seem to hardly give away.

You will need to swap out the trans in the 91 to a 2wd unit when you make your swap.

Consider it payback for the 86. Of course, I handled the mad wife situation. She now resides elsewhere.

Ken, no prob. Just a little good natured ribbing.

Re: 4wd to 2wd

Jonboy, how hard was it to convert to a 73 top. I have a 73 windshield frame and I have a line on some doors and a top, If I do the 2wd conversion I want to do the top conversion also.

Take a look at this link for to see how to complete a conversion to full Convertible.

http://www.coloradok5.com/full-conve...nversion.shtml

By the way you can use your doors if you cut them. There are a couple of internal support braces where the rear window frame was on the door that you could get from a 73-75 K5, but you could make them yourself. The link shows all. All the rubber parts are available from LMC. The only other parts for the doors you would need if you cut yours is the little fiberglass caps that go over the cuts on the rear of the doors. Don't think they re-pop those yet...

Re: 4wd to 2wd

I bought the truck already cut, but I don't think it was too terribly bad. Since you have the windshield post, the battle is pretty well won. To buy GM Blazer doors, they gave you pickup doors and a template on where to cut. You can use the windshield as a template to put the windshield post in.

His wife is veeeery understanding. She has just been worn a little thin on it recently. Jon he changes trucks as often as you if not more.

BTW- Please be careful that this doesn't turn into a "For Sale" thread...

Re: 4wd to 2wd

Whoever did mine must have had a donor. They did not put the support braces in the back of the door, but that really just holds the caps in place. They took a long sheetrock screw and ran it through the rear window channel brace. Not the prettiest, but effective. If you use the later doors (77-up) you can run power windows and later model door panels, too. The rod that holds the window crank handle is longer on the leter model regulator. Using later model door panels with the early regulator causes the door panel to bow in quite a bit around the window crank handle.
