Moms' Truck

My folks ordered this '68 in the fall of '67. It has a 327 and was built to haul an overhead camper and for odd jobs around the place. It is always garaged and has 56k miles, with probably 6k miles in the last 25 years. The paint, upholstery, glass, weather stripping, everything is original. I don't even remember the brakes being rebuilt. There is not a dent or speck of rust anywhere. Mom replaces the tires every 7 years or so just because they dry out and crack. Mom's 85 now and still drives the truck a couple times a month to get hay and feed or take the dog for a ride.

WOW!!! Talk about a time capsule!! That is a sweetheart (and one of my favorite colors too!). I dig the antique Johnson Messenger CB under the dash, but what's the chrome thing under the center of the dash? Also, are those lights in the radio delete plate?

Totally awesome truck!

Re: Moms' Truck

Those lights in the radio delete were for leveling the camper and that other thing is a 50 year old kleenex dispenser.

Awesome. I thought that may have been a tissue box, but didn't have any idea on the lights. Too cool!

Re: Moms' Truck

Now that's my kind of truck! That thing's in great shape and it looks like it has all the right stuff for 68.

That's an unusual color combo for these trucks. Do you know if they picked out the yellow/blue interior combo when they ordered the truck?

Super truck. Has your Mom ever considered adopting a poor man in Mississippi? I know one if she has!

Sweet truck!

Re: Moms' Truck

I guess that's the perils of living in a dry, desert environment.

Nice truck. One-owner, to boot.

As for the interior, I don't think it is blue. I believe it is green.

When these trucks were ordered new, GM "suggested" color combos, but you could specify any available interior, with any available paint color. Sounds weird, but that's the deal. Here's the verbage from the November 8, 1968 Cabs, Bodies and Colors section of my Truck Data Book for '69.

IMPORTANT
Dealer Note: Exterior and Interior combinations shown in charts below are those recommended by Chevrolet; however, any exterior color may be ordered with any available interior color if the particular combination is desired by a customer.

All an order had to have was an interior trim code for an available trim color, regardless of the exterior paint color. Also, other notes state that the interior color would match the primary color of the exterior, except the top of the dash would be a non-glare finish.

So, if the original order sheet specified a Turquoise interior and the exterior primary color was Maroon, that's the way it came to the dealer. Can't do that now, can we? Dang computers messed everything up.

It's more green than blue. They special ordered that color combo.
