Help with Dash Lights!

Im running out of Ideas (I dont have many). I cant get my dash lights to work, my turn signals work and my high beam indicator work but nothing else. Heres what Ive tried so far,
-replaced fuse (blown)
-replaced all bulbs (also blown except for ones listed above)
-checked printed circut (looks good)
-rughed up contacts to make sure everything was making a good connection
Is there supposed to be a ground between the dash and the gauge cluster?
Please Help Im lost!

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

IIRC there is a black wire that comes off of the cluster connector w/ a clip on it. I believe this clips to the dash just behind the bezel.

A clip on ground is a good idea, but if he had a bad ground, the lights he said were working, wouldn't. Plus, the fuel guage would be acting real stupid.
Try replacing the headlight switch, or at least wiggle the knob as you twist it back and forth. These switches are known for crapping out in this way.

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

I agee on teh headlight switch suggestion. The indicators you mentioned that ARE working are not controlled by the headlight switch (I mean you can't dim them). The cluster lights are all dim-able from the headlight switch, and that is most likely where your issue is.

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

Is it possible somebody added a gauge cluster to a non-gage cluster harness or vice-versa?

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

nope, some of the lights would work, and his high beam indicator would not work properly, nor one of his turn signals....left one I think.

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

Thanks for the info! I will try those out and see if they work. Is there any way to test the switch to see if its bad besides turning the dimmer? Next stupid question... is it pretty easy to find the headlight switches at local parts stores or is it something they or I will have to order or go to the junk yard to find? Thanks again

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

POS72K10, I had similar issues, but my tail lights and brake lights also didn't work. Is your dome light working? On my truck, it ended up being the fuse panel. I spent 2 hours sanding terminals of rust and corrosion to fix the problem. On my cluster, the only thing that worked was same as yours, the high beam indicator, and the turn signals. Check your brake and tail lights. If these are not working as well, you need to go back and re-check your fuse panel with a test light and find the terminal that isn't conducting current.

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

Fleet, yep all those lights work, but probably not a bad idea to clean up the fuse panel.

Re: Help with Dash Lights!

67Fleet, thanks for the tip. My dome/tail/stop lights were not working so I removed the fuse, cleaned up the terminal and reinserted the fuse. They work great. Thanks!

On another note, I have a weird problem. When I got the truck, there was no fuse in the reverse light socket. I put one in and when I shift to reverse, the generator light illuminates and instead of the reverse lights, the brake lights activate. Any crazy ideas?
