Help with steel braided hose and AN fittings

There are a couple of places I would like to use steel braided hose on my truck. Specifically from my external transmission cooler to the tranny hard lines and from the fuel pump to the carb.

However I have never seen anybody make a piece. I looked in the FAQ and the FAQ index.

Can anybody walk me through the process? Of course pictures would be great for everybody.

A great source for information is the Aeroquip catalog - pretty good instructions in the back (link below). Russell also makes this stuff, and it's a bit cheaper and more readily available.

Key points are:
- Get the right hose - fuel lines are very different from trans cooler lines. Also note that the AN numbers are easy - they're just 1/16ths of an inch..an AN-4 line is 4/16: 1/4" outside diameter

- Get the right fittings - these also vary by application.

- You *must* use assembly lube from the hose mfgr; you'll screw up a bunch of hoses if you don't do this.

- If you're going to make a bunch of these, it's worth investing in the vise dies and the aluminum wrenches. DON'T get this stuff from Aeroquip as you'll pay through the nose...Summit and others carry far cheaper sets.
