Last Purchase of 2005!

I could not resist! I told my wife "Wheels for a classic truck are like women's shoes...you need a pair/set for every occasion!"

Call me old-school but I really like these "Indy" slots to give a truck that classic look. I just need to find two more of the 10" wide wheels to complete this set. The Early Bird swap meet is just around the corner in February.

If i used that reasoning on my red-headed wife, she'd buy a new pair of shoes , lol . Hey what's that stepside box in the background ? Is the early bird the Vette swap in Puyallup ? Later .

Re: Last Purchase of 2005!

409, That is box is in the process of rework for my stepside. I got it from a GREAT boardmember...FRENCHBLUE72!!!!!!!!! I had to move it out of the shop temporarily to finish the cab. Yes, the Corvette and High Performance meet is Feb 11-12 and it is a good one for all parts as you probably already know. There may be more truck parts the following weekend at the Early Bird Meet but they are both great swap meets. It would be much better if they would put about two weeks between them.

FRENCHBLUE72, I see them every now and then...miss most of the great deals but managed to pick these up. The swap meets are usually a pretty good place to find them or used tire shops in small towns. For some reason those guys seem to know that they can get a good price for them.

What would be a price you would expect for 6 lug slots or 8 lug slots?

Re: Last Purchase of 2005!

I see full sets (4) for prices ranging from $120-$250 depending upon the width, diameter and condition. A great price at a swap meet is $100/4. Many times they come with tires that are worn out, at no additional charge. With good tires they are almost always more.

I paid $40 for these and gave the guy a $5 tip for helping me load them...that is why I could not refuse them! One of the 33 x 12.5's on this set is new...the others are serviceable for around town.

16.5...I knew I could count on you Frank...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! These might be 9.75 wide since I have not checked them inside the bead area since the tires are still on them.

Bummer you can't find them in 16 inch. if it wasn't for the cost of 16.5's, I'd have a set of old slots or turbines, or even the deep dish steelies like you have been showing us.

Re: Last Purchase of 2005!

Andy, The price of the 16.5's from the dealers around here are actually less than the price of comparable 16's! That is why I decided I would stick with them. There are still three (3) tire companies making the 16.5's for highway and off-road use. I will go look them up again but I checked twice last summer.

On-line prices for 33x12.5x16.5 range from $126-$136 (plus shipping mount and balance). Local shop wants $191-$197 but that includes shipping mount and balance. The 315x70x16 is about $201-$226.

BTW...love the new avatar, LOL.

I bet northern guys would love to buy those tires that are mounted on your slots. But,then you`d be stuck with those outdated, out of style, totally non-blingish,odd diameter from the past "Dish Mags"(as the old farts used to call`em).Wait!!I`m a nice guy that is known to lend a hand when others are in need even though I have no metals to pin on my chest.I could help by buying those wheels even though I have no idea what use I could possibly make of them.I would even pay a good price that would possibly net you a greater overall price out of the combined set. But,(sigh) you just can`t help those who don`t want to be helped.

Those Ansen Sprint reproductions are made in 8-lug sizes. At least last I checked.M/T Challengers were a dang close rendering. But,they weren`t made wider than 8"x16" and even worse, they`ve disappeared from the listings.

Just checked the American Racing website. 15 an 17 inch sizes only. 1/2 ton 6 lug too. No 8 luggers. But a lot of truck wheels on their site. Too bad they don't make 16" slots anymore. My 17" wheels are not very stylish, neither are the skinny tires . Some new Ford 3/4 ton wheels are nearly spitting images of old slot wheels. They are 16".

The MOAB wheel from American racing is close to an aluminum slot, but in a 17" wheel. DANGIT!!!!!!!!!!! Wait!!!!! That means I could take all the old, crappy, rotten 7.00 and 7.50x17's I got with the truck and put them on the new wheels!!!!! EL CHEAPO, MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7.5-17's are tube tires, you can't run 'em on radial rims unless they say tubeless next to the tire size. I know 'cause I've tried that before with the old 7.5-16's from my truck, I just got laughed at, except for the fact that the manager of the tire shop wasn't exactly happy about me rolling one of those split rims into their shop...........I should've known better I guess.

Re: Last Purchase of 2005!

Wish I could come up with two more of them to make a set of 4. DC's(?) in Orchards (Vancouver) had a set a year ago of the 16.5s that looked good, but the problem with the 16.5s is the outer rim doesn't hold a bead very well when aired down for offroad snow/sand.
