Door Speakers

Anyone know if this is a one off item or who the manufacturer is if they are a production item? This is a picture of one of Hills Hot Rods custom trucks, so most likely it is a one of a kind speaker pod.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Door Speakers

I would guess that is is a one off. Anyone who would detail the door jab like that would build or have something built. I haven't seen a pair before that were not custom.

Re: Door Speakers

Does Hill's have a site? I did a quick google and came up empty.
This is the second or third thread I've read recently about their trucks.

Re: Door Speakers

Yeah I'm thinking they start with a in house made fiberglass pod and then cover it with material of choice or just paint the fiberglass pod with color of choice. If you do research online you will find lots of info on this mod. With time and practice you can do the job yourself.

I haven't done any fiber glass work in the past, but I'm going to give it a try. What's the worst that can happen...I don't use them. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Re: Door Speakers

You could get a set of these:

Came factory on my 80! A guy can fit a pair of Infinity speakers in there no problem!

Re: Door Speakers

I think a cleaner option may be to consider a custom kick panel enclosure. You'll get better imaging than in the doors, plus it will be a bit easier to maintain a clean, uncluttered appearance.

I agree.
I have Q-logic kick panels in both of my trucks and I highly recommend them. They come in factory colors, fit like a glove, and sound great stuffed with some Alpine R's.

Re: Door Speakers

Here's what I did, we mounted mine in the door, wasn't too hard to do other than cutting the reinforced metal right in that corner of the door. Wiring was easy, too.

Oh and when I get this bad boy painted, that Pioneer grey will match pretty tight... but that's off topic.

I thuroughly suggest putting your speakers in the doors.

That works fine with manual windows.
On a truck with power windows the motor is in that exact spot on the inside of the door (driver's side).

Re: Door Speakers

lol silly power windows... no one has those things anyways

It's just another thought. it's a relatively easy spot to put them, and a LOT cheaper than buying a custum enclosure.

If your doors have manual windows that should work fine.

BTW
I just received a pair of Q-logic speaker kick panels that I bought on ebay over the weekend (my third pair in the last two years). Brand new in the box for $31.00! Guess I need to buy a truck with a black interior to put them in.

Do those Q-logic panels leave an opening for the round vents?

Rod Doors also have a floor panel speaker mount.
