What a day, a day I thought would never come. After I got the windshield installed and the front end aligned it was time to take it out on the road for the first time in 4 yrs. I didn't know what to expect, what did I forget to tighten, what would fall of the truck and the biggest and most important ??? would it stop when I wanted it to?.............Well I'm happy to report that I'm still alive and well and so is the truck.

She handle like a dream (compared to what it use too). What a differance new suspension, brake and steering components make. It feels good to have it driveable again, but I've run out of funds for a while. Guess the paint is going to have to wait for a while.

Congrats Mike. Just having a "truck" instead of a project (or in my case usually a broken down truck) is great ain't it.

Found some belts for ya. Didn't get to spend as much time at the yard as I had hoped, so I'm going back tomorrow for the serpentine stuff for you and Palf70step.

Sounds great!!! I cannot imagine how that first drive was. Mine has been off the road for 10 years and I'm planning on driving it this year!

I think the first drive is normally one of the best, once you realize it is all tightened and not going to drop parts in the road anyways.

Congrats - that is a great feeling. Hope your funds recover so you can move on to paint sooner than you expect.

George I would have felt a little more comfortable with seat belts in it when I got to that first stop light

. The pucker factor was pretty high at that point. My daughter wanted to go for a ride in the truck when she got home from school so we drove out to the trucks PO to show him what I had done to his truck. On the way I told Sabrina (my daughter), she's 5 yrs old, that I didn't have a radio so she would have to sing for me on the way. It was a hoot

. Anyway on the way home she laid down in the seat and went to sleep. I'd say it rides pretty good

I hope so too. with the way paint prices have gone up I need to get it paint asap

Great job. It must feel really great to finally take it for a drive.

I have to admit that I just got through complaining to my wife how tired I was on working on my truck. For the last two weeks I have been welding and filling holes that were drilled in the truck, everywhere by the previous owner. There was about a dozen holes in the roof (from barlights) and in the dash (from switches). Still have several more to fill and then it's ready for the paint. I can only afford to paint the interior and the roof at this time. I now feel ashamed for complaining after reading your post. Keep up the great work and congrats on the 1st ride.

Congrats Mike. It feels great. I'll be looking forward to mine I hope when the weather warms up a tad (make that hotter than h-ll...least I hope I have the engine in by then.

awesome..i did the same thing last week. was a lil shakey at first like ya said but after a about 4-5 times up an down the street..i went out an opened it up a bit..wow. it is a great feeling. and remember paint is for rich people.hahaha.
