Cluster reassembly...

Since my fiasco with the speedo... Is there any special instructions I should follow when I get ready to put it all back together. Can I clean the circuit on the back with alcohol? How should (or can I ) clean the clips and sockets to make sure they all get good contact? Open to any and all advise, thanks!

Re: Cluster reassembly...

I would be careful with the alcohol on the circuit board, may not hurt it, but hate to find out the hard way. I use a pencil eraser to clean the contact surfaces in the cluster. The clusters are pretty much Murphy proof as far as how stuff fits in. Be careful with the mount tabs, they are easy to break.

Before you re-assemble it I would paint the interior with chrome paint and track down some 194 bulbs, makes all the difference in the world.

Re: Cluster reassembly...

got it cleaned and all ready to reassemble. As I was putting in the last metal clip (ones that hold the gauges themselves) I noticed I was one short. Then I remember that one of the little ones only had 2 on it when I took it out. I think the water temp gauge but I'm not sure. Anyone know? If so which one if looking at the gauge installed from the front can be left off?

Re: Cluster reassembly...

You should be able to look at the back of the gauges and tell.

Re: Cluster reassembly...

Tried lookung at the back of the gauges. The temp actually has four studs. The oil and batt both have 3 each. They'll fit but I'm afraid one won't work if I don't get it right. I guess I may have to try trial and error.

Re: Cluster reassembly...

Got it thanks. It was the volt gauge. Only requires 2 clips. I just went out and tried each in different positions. Thanks everyone.
