how heavy is a fully assembled wood bed sans tailgate? how many people to lift off or has anyone used a engine hoist to lift off?

I agree with Haywagon. I did it with myself and two teenagers, first removing the rear wheels so we didn't have to lift it any higher than necessary. We were struggling.

I would guess in the 350-400lb range.As was mentioned,3 can do it but 4 is soooo much better.

Hey Cole,it can be done with 3 men and a boy.We did this a couple of months ago.It was a steel bed.You can just see my son's head right behind me,he is not very big.It wasn't that bad.If you need an extra hand let me know.

if i use my son it would be "three men and a baby" (he is only three). i'll give him the lighter corner this time. he will get the heavy corner when he is four.

OK. maybe i should call you scott!

he will be out there in the middle of it regardless. he loves to help me with cars, truck, motorcycle. all boy!

I could be wrong (my wife says I always am) but I would think a wood bed would be a bit heavier than a steel bed.
Like Studebaker said, I pulled my rear wheels when I pulled my bed and it made it quite a bit easier. I pulled the wheels and then lowered it as low as I could get it on my jackstands.

I just bought a replacement bed for my truck last weekend. It took two of us to remove my old bed (short wide with metal floor), and I don't have a whole lot of extra muscle on me. I stuck my arms way into the wheel well so the opening of the wheel well was sitting on the insides of my elbows. I found it the easiest to lift it that way. My new bed is supposed to have a wood floor, but all of the wood is gone. The bed was sitting on a couple of sawhorses in an area that had about 6 inches of flood water flowing through it from all the rain we have received up here in Northern California. I picked up the front of the bed and the other guy picked up the back of the bed and we trudged through the water over to my truck. I'm sure it made a huge difference in the weight not having the wood in there. I doubt anyone will ask to borrow my truck now.

I have lifted up truck boxes with an engine hoist and it works very well. Get 2
lengths of chain about 12' long and attach them to the stake holes running
corner to corner to form an "X" over the center of the box. Run a bolt thru the
two chains where they cross and lift from there. It will take 2 people. 1 to
drive the cherry picker and 1 to hold & steady the box so it dosen't swing
around too much. FYI, a fully assembled 8' box weighs around 400 lbs.
