Ok, what's the best way to clear aluminum for a motor? For truck interior usage?

I have a heck of alot of billet going onto my truck. I am not one to polish constantly...

I thought about clear powercoating or anodizing, but having difficulty finding a place to do it.

Anyone know where to get it done reasonably? Most of the stuff I have is pretty small, so I could ship it.

Sumax in NY State is a big-time powdercoating leader.They do m/c parts,mostly.Cleaning is the only prep.I`m sure you can find a powdercoater up your way.

Two or three coats of clear laquer do a pretty good job on aluminum.And you can do it yourself.

I think Zoops sells a kit called Zoop Seal.

POR15 makes a product called Glisten that works well on aluminum. Make sure the parts are real clean before sprayng. It is a lot like regular clear coat. Easy to mix and you can get small quantities.

Zoops does NOT work well only lasts one season I am going to try clear coteing next Tony 67 chevy PU 327

Plain old lacquer won't stay on very well with polished parts that actually get used. Door handles, knobs etc. will give you problems. Brushed parts or raw castings on the other hand will hold up considerably better. With the polished parts there is nothing for the finish to "bite" into so it just sits there as a skin coating on the surface. It takes very little to hurt it and when you do it will peel of in big chunks. I don't know how well it would hold-up under the hood though......

Zoop Seal is bloody expensive!

I may try POR's Glisten. Found some of it.

Anyone used it?

We used it as one of the wood finshes we are testing. I just sprayed some of it on a polished aluminum molding to see how it would react. Adhesion was good. It really seemed a lot like clear coat to me, but I am not an experienced painter. In the wood finish test, it was the first to fail, after about 4 months continuous outdoor exposure. Failure is on the sharp edge of the boards, not on the flat surfaces. We did not test it for durability on metal parts, only wood. It seemed like a pretty good product to me. It will be hard to get a coating that lasts a long time on parts like door handles that see continuous wear.

I agree its the way to go.
Some places may not clear your engine parts though, a few in town told me
they had problems with clear on engine parts due to the heating and cooling.
Get a warranty if you can.

eastwood has a product called dimond clear but i have never used it but i think its for aluminum wheels and such
