Shipping questions

Got a couple of Q's about shipping. I've bought lots of stuff off the board and ebay, but I have yet to sell anything. Mostly due to the big fear of shipping. To be honest, I just don't know what do to? How do you estimate shipping? Any positive/negative experience with cerain shippers? (dsl, ups, usps etc...). Any packaging tips, like where to get bubble wrap and boxes cheap? I've got a few small things I'd like to sell, but I'd like to make sure I've got the shipping part figured out before I sell. Thanks

Re: Shipping questions

I have been selling on ebay for 6 years now.

Estimating shipping?

I box up my item as I would to ship it. I take it to the post office and get a quote to ship it to the farthest coast from me in the USA. I use that as my shipping price for any buyers. You can also do this online if you have a GOOD scale and use the shipping company webpages for estimates.

Boxes / packaging material?

I save almost every box from items I buy as well as the packaging peanuts or other materials used to stuff the boxes.

Newspaper works great as a stuffing material if nothing else is available. If it is fragile or extremely sensitive, go buy a roll of bubble wrap from Costco/Sams/Office Max or a store like that. They sell boxes as well.

Another alternative is visit the Post Office for boxes. For most smaller items and clothing, they Priority Mail boxes are FREE. you can package your item and ship it Priority and all is good. I order the priority package from the http://www.usps.com webpage for free (no shipping charges either)

Good Luck!

If you have a UPS Store or Mailbox , Etc in your area they have everything to ship with , cartons , bubble wrap , etc . The're probably a little more exspensive , but once you ship a few items it gets easier . Good luck .

Re: Shipping questions

I ship hundreds of packages each month.

I use the USPS for small things and FEDEX for large items. If it's REALLY big I use Forward Air. I won't use UPS under any circumstances.

ALWAYS buy enough insurance to cover a loss and get a tracking number. No exceptions.
