Brake shoes, primary, secondary
Just did a brake job on my 67 C-10. I installed a 72 rear axle in it about 10 years ago. Today I decided to do a brake job. I found out the PO had installed both primaries (short lining) on the left side and both secondaries (long lining) on the right side. Normally I find PO's have installed the primary in the rear and the secondary to the front. Can you believe it?
OK, a refresher, the short (primary) linings go to the front! Just venting, thanks

Re: Brake shoes, primary, secondary
I once bought a Chevy II that was like that, except it was the front brakes. If you hit the brakes, it would take the wheel right out of your hands.

Re: Brake shoes, primary, secondary
I have mine apart now. Which shoe goes toward the front, long pad or short pad? Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Brake shoes, primary, secondary
I know this thread is old but I havn't done a drum brake job in at least 20yrs and so when I consulted my handy dandy Haynes Manual (I wish Bently did US vehicles) and it shows the Primaries (short) to the rear both in the picture and in the diagram. Glad I checked with you guys...now I have to switch them tomarrow....

Re: Brake shoes, primary, secondary
I can see this is going to be a touchy subject, but I always thought the long pad went in the front...

Re: Brake shoes, primary, secondary
I am rebuilding my brakes on a '68 C10. I picked up my new brakes yesterday from O'Reillys and noticed after reading this post that ALL 4 of the rear shoes are long. They are the same length as the longest shoe of my originals.
I guess I will taking them back and figure out the problem today. Thanks guys. NoNeck
