Whoops, I threw away my 72 mounts instead of the 77s it looks like, so right now for my 72 I’m attempting to line up the pair from the 77. The top mounts line up on the frame rails, and the bottom holes don't line up for the cross member mount. I can drill some holes in the cross member and be done with it right? They’re a 1/2 closer together than they should be but there's plenty of tolerance for that. Also isn’t there a benefit to using later model mounts?

Are you installing a small block? If so I have a set you can have. I'm in Ft Worth.

Well the mounts are really not that different. If I remember right the 73-87 style mount will move the motor back to the firewall about a inch. Other then that its cool.

well i hope i don't have firewall issues, the hei looked hard pressed already. i had mounts for a smallblock for both the 72 and 77 so the motor will bolt in no problem.

edit:pics, i think i got an inch to spare, will i need a bigger fan spacer?

That is what I had to redo today. Mine uses the later style mounts. I swapped out the front end on mine and had to redrill the holes in the crossmember. There is something about this in the FAQ area. Supposedly the newer mounts are much stronger and easier to slip an engine onto. My opinion, go with the newer ones since you have them.

BTW - I have HEI and there is plenty of room between the firewall and distributor.
