Transmission Fluid on Speedo Cable Connectio

I keep seeing transmission fluid pooling on the speedo cable connector where it connects to the transmission. The cable is only 6 months old or so. I changed the pan gasket and the o-ring on the passing gear to fix the other leaks.

Any idea what I need to do to fx this?

It's probably the O-ring around the fitting that slides into the tranny. That is what my leak was, both on the manual and the automatic. I took mine out and took it to AZ and found an o-ring that fit.

Hey Bill, where did you get the o-ring at? Are you talking about the speedo ratio adapter (not sure if that is the formal name)? But, there is a bracket with a single bolt holding it in.

I got mine an Autozi\one from the pile of stuff. I don't know what it's format name is, but on my manual I just called it the "silver bullet thing with the speedo gear on it" . My automaitc is on the floor right now, and I haven't pulled it out on this one to see what the slide in part looks like. I did an automatic years ago, same way (AutoZone), I just can't remember what the part looked like that I pulled out. But it is the part you screw the cable onto, and yes they have a little bracket with one bolt holding it in..

I had the same problem. I called a tranny shop and they said we got them. So I brought them the housing and they installed a new one on for me. Now no more leaks. Hope that helps

I installed a new O ring seal along with a new cable mine still drips. It's driving me nuts.

I had this problem and found out it could be and was three things. First, as already mentioned, was the o-ring. There is also a seal on the inside of the fitting that keeps oil from getting aorund the gear. I was able to get one at a local transmission shop. The third thing is the gear itself. If there is wear on it, a new seal won't do any good. Had to order the gear. Anyway, once I replaced all three peices I didn't have a leak problem. Hope this gives you an idea what to look for.

It must be the little lip seal that the speedometer driven gear slides through. Probably have to get it at a tranny shop or GM. You can see that seal if you take off the speedo cable and look at the plastic gear with the square hole. There is a little lip seal there between the gear and the gear housing.

The housing and the gear both can wear, if replacing both seals doesn't fix it then get a new gear and housing.
