$200 truck

I was at Auto Zone last week and got to talking with a older man that was looking at buying some windshield wipers. As we talked he told me that he had a old 78 Chevy pickup that he did not drive anymore and needed to get rid of it.I told him that I might be interested in buying it for parts that I can put on my 66 Chevy. I followed him to his house and thinking this would be a waste of my time.
Well he said that if I wanted it I could have it for $200 dollars. The truck has new brakes,Rotors.Carb. Fiberglass camper shell, new tires, and a 350 motor with 86,654 miles on the speedometer. The truck was sitting under a Pecan tree since spring time and has not been moved.
I went home and got some money and a battery, fast as I could because things like this don't happen to me. I put the battery in cranked it up and drove it home. The gas tank said that it was full and it is.
I got a clean title and have registered it already.
I am not bragging about this truck or what I paid for it, I was just letting everyone know there are still some bargains out there.
Here are some Pic;

Re: $200 truck

Good score! That doesn't look like a 78 grill though. Iy looks like an 80 grill to me. Anyway, for $200 dollars you can't go wrong.

Re: $200 truck

Great score. I would sell the camper top and recoop the money you spent on it fast. Wish I could find something like that around here.

BTW: The grill looks like mine for a 79. I bet it very well could be stock.

Yes you are, but I don't blame you. I would be rubbing it in like mad if I had found a deal like this....

I'd be bragging about a deal like that even If I just found a complete truck not running that I could nab all the ac stuff out of.

Good deal!

I just got a deal like that the other day Sounds very much like your score, except mine is very rusty in the cab, and is a shortbox stepper (step box is actually in good shape!)

This makes 2 Auto Zone parking lot deals I've heard of in the last 24 hours. Guess I better change my hang out spot. That deal was a "you ain't gonna believe this s--t story". Great buy. Ron586 (Mr Round Tuit)

Re: $200 truck

Lookin' good for $200. I love those stripes running up the hood on either side, never seen them in red before, I've seen the blue on russel's truck and on a near mint chev from the same era with blue rallys near me. Anyone know if that was a popular option?

Quite the opposite actually -- They are actually very uncommon! I've seen them in red, blue and green from the factory.

Most people just get rid of them when they re-paint their trucks, if they have them. I personally plan to do some masking and re-paint them on there using mixed paint instead of the original plastic material that was used factory

My 77 Blazer Chalet had those stripes in Beige to match the Brown Beige tu-tone when it was new. The PO, my neighbor had them painted over when he had the first repaint but I wet sanded through and took measurements of the stripes before I replaced the hood.

HOGDOCTOR: Great deal on the truck. Usually it's the "Day too late and too many dollars short" when a deal does come up.

Re: $200 truck

Awesome Russel, Glad to see people are saving them then if they're rare. Can't wait to see your truck done.
The HogDocter: Sorry I stole the thread there haha now we know it's even a little rare though. Good luck with whatever you do with it (I just hope to see those stripes )
