Have some Q's looking for some A's
Hey all! I have some questions about a 64 that a neighbor of mine has. It is a four wheel drive half ton. He originally wanted a grand for it, but I got him down to 700. Now that I have looked it over again, I'm not sure if it's worth that or not. Just about every panel is either dented and or rusted. It is a six banger with a four speed. The cool part of it is that it is a factory 4x4. It also has the factory tach, which I'm not sure if that's common or not, but it looks cool. So, I was wondering what you guys think. Also what was the first year for factory four wheel drive? I appreciate any input.

Ya, the tach doesn't work along with alot of the other electrical stuff, but I think it's just wiring not mechanical(the mice love that thing).

Re: Have some Q's looking for some A's
This truck appears to have the signs of needing a lengthy/expensive restoration. The tach does not appear to be a factory one. The factory tachs were placed on the right side of the instrument panel..the left side was usually reserved for the optional air guage. Also, the RPM's on the one in your truck appear to go higher than what would have been required for a '64 truck. But that's small peanuts compared to the time & money you'll invest into repairing the rust that's obvious from the pictures (for starters). The truck might be worth the price if you have to long term commitment to follow the dream through the end. I know, because I did it. My truck will never be worth the money I put into it (& I did alot of the work myself). If I had to do it all over agin, I'd have held out for a better starting point for a little more money. There are plenty of decent deals out there..these trucks aren't in the realm of the old Corvettes (yet). Just my opinion, however.

Try getting a truck that old in the north east. To me, that thing is damn near mint. I wish my 62 burban was in that good of shape. I always liked that body style, I say fix whenever you get some time, do it slow, but don't have to be perfect. Build it so you can drive it anywhere, and drive it everywhere!!! If you were closer and I didn't have so much going on, I would buy it.

In #2 pic the key appears to be on and the tach shows 6-7 hundred rpm . So if its 4wd and running buy it. Then get out your BIGcheck book and restore it.

Re: Have some Q's looking for some A's
Well, I talked to the guy today and got him down to 600 bucks. So long story short, its on its way to my house.
I never noticed that the tach RPMs were different. I think the factory one should only go to 5000. I wonder what it is actually out of? Another thing, the guy said he has the original tailgate in his shed, it will be interesting to see what shape it is in. Thanks again for the input. Last edited by Kager67; 01-15-2006 at 11:39 PM. |

4x4 drivetrain alone is worth the cost.
