Question Removal of Computer & Harness

The previous owner swapped out the original EFI 305 for a non-FI 350. I'm trying to clean up the wiring and would like to know if anyone has removed the original computer and wiring harness? The engine compartment is mess of disconnected wires because the the truck in no longer FI. Anyone know if I will run into any problems removing this stuff?

Does everything work? If it does I'm going to stick my neck out and say if it's not connected to anything you probably don't need it.

Everything works, but I don't know if the ignition system runs through the computer. It sure would be nice to be able to remove it and clean up the wiring.

Re: Removal of Computer & Harness

My friend's '87 used a distributor that had a remotely mounted coil. My '86, and the earlier models woth electronic ignition have it in the cap.Does yours have the remote coil?

I'm guessing the person who got rid of the EFI probably switched it to a standard HEI, the one with the coil in the cap. That probably would have been the simplest solution. If so, it probably does not use any of the computer stuff. I can't say for sure, since I don't know anything about the fuel injected trucks,

Re: Removal of Computer & Harness

I took the computer out of my truck and my son's truck. The wiring is in the trash. As long as you have a standard carb, an HEI type distributor, and you have figured out your tranny lockup (if you have one); the computer is useless. My 700R4 trannys are NON-lockup converters and the carbs are AFB style with HEI distrbutors. /works great.

The HEi only needs a switched power source wire from the ignition circuit to the hot connection on the cap (for the coil)
