Unhappy Need 700R4 work/adjustment - help!

I've had nothing but bad experiences with tranny shops in the past, so I thought I'd post the question for those of you in the Dallas area. I'm actually up north of Plano, so I'd prefer something on this side of town if possible.

My issue is I bought my truck with a 700R4 in it, which is great, however the guy that converted it over had no idea how to set it up correctly. It has a few weird issues that I'd like to get fixed before I do any damage.

1) It isn't quite "in gear" at idle and thumps into gear when you hit the go pedal. It idles forward normally, however so this is kinda weird to me.

2) The shift timing is screwy. At normal throttle opening amounts 20-50%, it shifts a little early, but not bad. At WOT it shift way too early. This goes for every gear.

3) The shift firmness is all screwy. 1-2 shift is HARD. 2-3 and 3-4 feel fine, but I wouldn't mind them to be tighter. I find myself starting really slow to allow it to shift to 2nd, then rolling back on the gas. Kinda annoying.

If I manual shift it at WOT, the 1-2 is still pretty harsh but the rest of the trans function seems to be great.

I've played with the cable adjustment, but it acts weird too. As I move the adjustment, the shift points keep increasing to a point (but still too early) and then they start falling off to lower RPM again.

I also don't have a lock-up converter and I'm not sure how to tell whether or not I should. Actually, all I know is that it doesn't lock up! I'd LOVE to add this little feature.

Re: WTF: GOOD tranny shop in North Dallas - anyone got any leads?

Not cheap but really know their stuff at Rock-On transmissions in Denton. Dave is the owner and he specializes in the 700r4 and the electronice version of that the 4L60e... anywhere else is hit and miss IMHO.
