Lift height question

Blazer finally went to the bodyshop to get the last of the bodywork done while the motor is finished up this week. I am hoping to get it painted and put together this spring. I have converted to 3/4 running gear with 4.10's and the big question is how much lift can I get and still fit in my garage? The opening on my garage is 82 inches high. The blazer specs say that stock height on a 4X4 is 68 1/2 inches to the top of the window frame without the top on. I wanted to run a six inch lift with 35's but if it won't fit I'll have to try 33's on a 4 inch lift. Is there anyone that can measure to the top of their window frame with a six inch lift on 35's to give me an idea if it will fit? I don't want to leave it outside with a soft top....to many car thefts in this area. Any ideas?

Re: Lift height question

my '72 has stock 235/85R16 (approx 31.5") with a 4" lift and it is about 6'9" with the hard top on. My '69 has 35" tires and a 6" lift. I've never measured it, but it is about 5 inches taller (judging by the fact that I can't reach the center of the hood when I wash it and I'm 6'3"). I think you might have to raise the roof on you garage to fit your desired tire/wheel combo.

Re: Lift height question

Thanks bouncy,

According to the specs the height of the blazer with the top on is approximately 4 inches higher than without the top on. Sooooo....if my math is correct your 69 is 5 inches higher than your 72 which puts it at 7'2" or 86 inches. Subtract the 4 inches for the top and you get 82 inches....exactly what my garage is. So I either go with 5 inches of lift and hope the tire brand isn't exactly 35 inches tall or I inflate/deflate every time I go in the garage! Whew!

Re: Lift height question

It is going to be very truck (and lift kit) and garage specific. My 72 has a 6" front/8" rear Skyjacker kit and 35" BFGs. Like your math, I can barely squeeze my truck into the garage with the top off and have to deflate the tires to get it in with the top on.

When you do your measurements check to the bottom of the garage door, not the opening. I know the springs on mine were old and I had to push the door up from the driver's seat every time, which is a real pain if you're in and out of there every day.

Also keep in mind that some soft-top bows are higher than the windshield frame. It's a pain to have to put the top partially up in the garage, pull out and then get out in the rain to finish it because you can't back out with the soft-top all the way up!

Re: Lift height question

Every lift and tire combo is different. Your measurements might be right. I think it is going to be close.

I seriously doubt that the truck is 4" lower with the top on. The hard top adds some weight and may cause some spring sag, but I doubt it is 4". Additionally, the hard top rises up in the front about 3-4" above the windshield frame, so that will most likely off-set any spring sag.

When I put the top back on my rig this fall, backing into the garage the truck had several inches of clearance. Pulling back out with the top on, It was touching the top of the garage door. I had to push the door up a bit more and use quick clamps to hold it while I drove out. It wasn't that tight when I took the top off, but I put all new seals on it which raised it a bit. I finished tightening it down after I pulled it out. Basically, I think it the overall height isn't effected much with or without the top on.

I never tried pulling my truck into the garage with the soft top on, but I'm sure Chris_T is correct about the height difference. Also, if you have a snap top, the bows are even taller than a fast track (there are only two bows on a snap and three on the fast track.)

Re: Lift height question

My 71 with a 4" all spring lift running 33" tires barely fits under my 7ft deck with the top on.

Re: Lift height question

Mine with a 4" lift and bfg 35" AT's is 81" tall to the top of the frame.I have a soft top on it.I do not wheel this one.The 35's with the 4" lift do not rub or hit.But they would if the suspension was flexed off road.

Re: Lift height question

Thanks for all the replies....I guess I'll just have to wait and see what will work with my particular application.

Bouncy, I meant to say that with the hard top on it is 4 inches taller than without a top at all.
