Which A-arms will interchange with 72 truck?

I just found that one of my lower a-arms is bad. Does anyone know if any other a-arm from say a chevy truck or car is interchangable with that of a 72 chevy c-10 (2WD)? Thanks

Re: Which A-arms will interchange with 72 truck?

From the help iv recieved from guys on this board....63-87 crossmember and a arms will work. If you go with the later style arms..you will automaticlly have a disc brake set up, a arms, crossmember, the whole 9 yards!!! I think they told me with the 73-87 crossmember, that you will have to elongate 2 of the bolt holes for it to bolt directly up....NO big deal. This is what i am planning on doing to my truck. I think it will be cheaper in the long run, and work exactly the way it should. Hope this helps.

I found the link to info that might help:::

**If i missguided this in anyway...someone please correct me!!!**

He just has a lower "A" arm that went bad. The 71-72 are the only ones that are the same, however you can use anything from 63 to 72. The 63-70 would need a ball joint change and the steering bumpstop is a little larger so you can't turn as tight. The 71-72 of coarse are direct bolt and you would maintain your turning radiouse. Re: Which A-arms will interchange with 72 truck?

If you just want so switch out one A-arm you probably want to stick with a 71 or 72. The 67-69 trucks had drum brakes and the bump stop for the steering is different on the lower A-arms. You can use a 67-69 A-arm but you will need to grind down the "tit" on the spindle so that your wheels will turn as far as they need to (I used stock 67 lower A-arms with a stock 71 disk brake spindle and I had to grind the "tit" down so I could turn my wheel properly from lock to lock). I don't know about any other years. What I have listed is the extent of my experience. The upper arms are all exactly the same (67-72) except the 71 and 72 used a different sized ball joint.

Edit: You beat me to it Wes.

I'm in the same boat...literally just found it 15 min ago while taking them apart. Oh well, thats the chance you run with 30+ yr old parts.

I bought a complete 71 GMC front disk brake suspension for my truck. It looked really good, but was covered heavily in grease. When I cleaned it up I found the passenger side lower A-arm had taken a hard hit (like from a tree stump or something) I didn't have this board for info and I saw the bump stops were different so I used both the lowers off my '67. After I had it all together I found I could hardly turn my wheels. That's when I figured out I had to trim the "tit" on the 71's disk brake spindle Oh well, it all works great now....

Re: Which A-arms will interchange with 72 truck?

Mine is messed up at the shaft. The hole is an oval, and all the threads are stripped out. Mine was off of a 71 rolling chassis I bought. Impossible to see while everything was together. Thats the only one I took apart today, but the others look to be in good shape.
