Rarity Question

Ok, Last year, I bought a 68 CST survivor. This is an unrestored original paint truck. I will get a shot of the glove box later, but wanted to ask how rare this truck is. It has the following:

396CI BB
TH400
PS
PB
AC
Tach Dash
Bucket seats
Lots more that I forgot. There is no structural rust, the doors close better than all my other 6 8-72 trucks(one finger close). This is an unmolested truck. The original owner was going to restore it but passed away some years back and the family just decided to sell it, so lucky me.

Were there many 1/2 ton BB trucks with this type equipment?

Thanks,

Doug

Re: Rarity Question

My big question is: what color is it?

Is it gold/ivory?

It is definately nicely optioned. Buckets are pretty rare. Tach dash is pretty rare. Power steering is probably the rarest in '68. 396 and th400 is less common, but I wouldn't call it rare.

Re: Rarity Question

The Standard Catalog of Chevrolet Trucks, lists bucket seats in '68 trucks at 2 percent; the 396 4-bbl engine at 3 percent, while the 2-bbl version is listed at 2 percent. The tach option is listed at 1 percent. Only 3 percent had A/C. The book states that 843,990 trucks of all sizes, were delivered in '68. You can do the math.

Re: Rarity Question

I can`t do the math.Sounds pretty rare, especially in original condition. If it was a shortbed it would be even better.I`d say it`s about as nice as a`68 can get.

Re: Rarity Question

That's what I have, minus the tach option. And the original 396 was long gone when I bought it. I'd say it's a pretty rare truck, worth hanging on to. There's another board member that has a short fleet with similar options. That would probably be more rare, there's not a lot of original short fleet 68 trucks out there.

Re: Rarity Question

About 4% of 68's were CST's. That's a really nice combo of options for a 68 or even later years.

Pictures are a MUST!

Re: Rarity Question

The truck is white with Red interior. I will try to upload some pictures. I took it for a short drive today and a neighbor stopped me and took me to his garage. He had a 67 short step that he started restoring 7 years ago and never finished. He just wanted to get rid of it. Yep, I have been moving that to my shop this afternoor. Powdercoated frame, lots of new parts still in the boxes... To much to move in one day. I will finish up tomorrow. Nice cab too. It included 72 front end and rearend to convert to 5 lug along with 5 rally wheels.

I have to many projects, this one may have to go to the decator swap meet.
