Pics of 72Ironmikes 68 short bed

Here are some pics of Mikes 68 Short bed truck. One of my friends did the restoration on it. This thing in incredible!!! It has a 5.3 vortec and a 4L60e tranny and 3:73 gears. It was a 99% rust free short bed to start with. Original 68 cab with the cargo light added. NOS GM (not repo's) short bed sides. Enjoy!!!

Re: Pics of 72Ironmikes 68 short bed

I met Rick thru Joe. If I was as talented as Rick I would have built 100 of these trucks by now. He has been featured in HotRod or another major mag a couple of times with his 72 Nova powered by a TunePort and then a LS1. He manufactured the motor and transmission mounts himself and even stripped the original harness down to use. This motor looks like it came in the vehicle at birth. I only had to send the computer out for programming and buy some gizmo to work the speedo. The truck has won a few awards and is a testimony to Rick's abilities. If I won the lottery I'd hire him and build cars and trucks for a hobby. Thanks for the pic posting Joe. Everyone on the board knows I'm pictorally challenged!

As a scanned down the pics, I thought "wow, that's one clean looking truck". Then the shot of the engine bay, "nice job! That is sweet! I want one!"

Re: Pics of 72Ironmikes 68 short bed

Looks great! You knew this question was coming. What drop is it running and what size wheels and tires are those? Once you get that info to us you can move a couple of these pictures to the wheel tire fitment sticky for reference for all of us.

Re: Pics of 72Ironmikes 68 short bed

The drop is 2/5 with 255/50/17 front & 275/50/17 rear. Wheels are 17 x 8 with 4 1/2 backspace on the front I think. I took the tire/wheel size off a members blue and white 71/72 that was on the tire /wheel fitment post.

Re: Pics of 72Ironmikes 68 short bed

Very nice. I like the painted silver face on the grill. It's true to the 68 look. White would be correct of course but that silver is sweet.

That's one of the nicer detailed late-model engine bays I've seen

I'm pretty much a 68 purest but that one is well done.

We have seen factory grills painted silver or white. It took some time to decide what color to paint this one. Do you know how you got a silver or a white grill?? Was it if you had a chrome bumper or not? Maybe a CST thing?? The color of the truck?? My Black 68 Dually was originally white with a silver grill, CST, and chrome bumper?? I have been trying to figure this one out for several years??
